Red Bulls 2-1 Strom: Agudelo, Finnish Trialist Scores, Another Trialist Debuts and More

By: Dave Martinez | February 1st, 2010

rbny_logoThe Red Bulls end their La Manga trip strong, with a convincing 2-1 win over Stromsgodset IF of Norway. This particular game included many wrinkles, including the debut of three new faces – a Fin, a Brazilian and an Academy Product!

NOTES:

- Mac Kandji and Bouna Coundoul have finally made their preseason debuts for the team. Bouna, though lightly contested, got out of the first half with a clean sheet.

- Juan Agudelo, Red Bull Academy phenom and U-20 superstar, was playing up top with Angel in the second half! This is a promising development for a player that was looking into playing for either Red Bull or Colombia’s Millionarios.

- There is yet another trialist on board! Toni Kolehmainen, a 21 year old Finnish player who spent time in AZ Alkaamar, winning the Dutch league with the side and Blackburn Rovers youth academy. Little information is known of the youngster, but what is known is he plays primarily from the right side defense, and the occasional midfield as well.

He debuted with the team today, securing the game winner off of an Agudelo feed. Quite a way to make an impression! But what he is probably best known for is starring in the 90’s family comedy Dennis The Menace alongside Mr. Walter Matthau (RIP buddy).

Come on! The resemblance is uncanny!

- Fernandinho is another trialist who debuted late with the team. I initially thought this was the Ukranian phenom, but alas, I was off (good looks @NewYorkRedBulls twitter guys!). The minute I get more on him, the sooner you all will know what he is all about. Perhaps a Red Bull Brazil prospect?

- Dane Richards has been on fire this postseason, involved in almost every preseason goal thus far. Perhaps Backe can unlock the potential so many have been waiting for in the Jamaican Nat.

- Austin da Luz is getting major minutes. Would not be surprised to see the young left winger getting the occasional start with the team. That is, unless Joel Lindpere ever becomes official!

- And what about the versatility of defender Tim Ream? He was used as a CDM for the second half. Word out of La Manga is that he has shown an excellent ability to thread passes in the open field. Could be bad news for the likes of Luke Sassano and company.

- Backe continues his undefeated streak heading into Disney to beat down on Mickey Mouse and some other MLS squads.

The Bulls head back to New Jersey before heading to the Wonderful World of Disney for a light preseason tournament. Meanwhile:
