I’m Off To Boston (suggestions?)
By: Dave Martinez | September 11th, 2008I will be going to Boston today, and coming back Sunday. Can’t promise any posts, but I may surprise you (it’s an addiction, what can I say?). I will have a laptop and my iPod touch – just in case.
So, help me out here – what can I do in Boston? Suggestions? Places to eat? Things to see?
Until then, I’ll see ya on the next post (or in the comments section of course)!
Have a great weekend.

Don’t do the Freedom Trail, its really lame. What type of food are we asking about here? Bars?

Bars to high end restaurants – i’m down for whatever.
I have to ask – what made it so lame? Before I do it and find myself trapped . . .

Its just walking around the city with a bunch of other people who are also tourists. Thats just me though, I’d plan out the sites you want to see and skip around the trail.
What type of food? Where are you staying? Theres always the North End for Italian, just walk around and pick a restaurant (be ready to wait though)
For like a night-time bar scene I’d suggest the Fanieul Hall area (Government Center stop on the Green Line). Good bars there include: McFaddens, Whiskeys, Bell in Hand, Purple Shamrock, Ned Divine’s

I wear my Yanks hat all the time. I wore it on my first day of work, just so people would know and we could get it all out of the way.

I lived in Boston during my 4 years of college and anytime I’m back in the city my absolute “must have” is Dino’s in the North End. Absolute best sandwiches (I like hot, but they have cold selections too, as well as different pasta dishes, etc). And for dessert, Mike’s Pastries is right around the corner.

I lived in Bahstun for several years in college and I can make a few suggestions.
Go to south boston and see all the irish wanna be mobsters. Oh, fair warning. They hate black people. Or anyone they think is black. Or just not irish. But with a last name like Martinez Im sure you’ll be fine.
then swing by Fenway park and shit on the field.
then go down mass ave until you hit the line where you can clearly see the transition from white Boston to non-white boston. Its easy. boston is the most segragated city in the north.
then get the hell out of baston
those are my suggestions.
or you could troll for college hotties in backbay or on newberry st. thats not such a bad time. then you can do the other stuff.

If you’re a burrito fan, then I highly recommend Ana’s Taqueria. There are 6 of them around the boston-cambridge-brookline area. And my advice for a sunny afternoon would be to pick up some cannolis at Mike’s Pastry on Hanover street in the North (or Modern Pastry across the street, though i prefer mike’s) and enjoy them in the Christopher Columbus park, which may be my favorite part of the city.

NLR – all joking aside – ive always wondered about that infamous BAHSTON racial divide – in fact, my brother hates this chowdah eating town because of it. I WILL make that drive and look for the . . . more “colorful” neighborhood for sure.
And Brad -THANK YOU! I am a huge cannoli fan (please no one make the easy joke on that one!) – and I was looking for a Mexi joint earlier so Ana’s would work perfect.
Thanks everyone! So far so good, keep em comin!

Dang you people have made me seriously hungry! Always go Italian, my friend. Was there 8 yrs ago, had a great meal wi/cervesa at the Cheers bar, which is called something else. Just Bar food like t.g.i.fridays, love the old walk down cellar rowhouses in that area, maybe Beacon Hill? Dont know, was blurry, lol! Like an older Georgetown, DC., I am an Architect so I suggest you walk that area, little shops and bars, thats the chick commentary. Still have my fingers crossed for my dynamic forward!!
