Meaningless Game . . . Right?
By: Dave Martinez | March 22nd, 2008
Its late. I am disappointed. And all seems bleak.
We lost a meaningless game against the Carolina Champion Earthquakes 3-0. Three. Nil.
How can a loss in a meaningless game manage to depress me so? Yes I know Jozy wasnt there. Neither was Freeman.
But 3-0?
Im taking some Nyquil. This is bad. And my thoughts need some rest before an extremely angry and emotional post flows through my fingers.
Goodnite folks.

Jesus, this is not a good sign. Did the defense collapse? did the midfield just suck? Did they have a line in vegas or something?

Hello Dave,
Happy Easter to all. Did I not tell you in previous emails I am die hard fan. But they have a very poor team and will not win many games. Besided JPA my favorite player and Jozy sorry to say second class. The defense is horrible. And these bizzare signings .
Take Care,
Ken

Hey Ken, welcome back.
And Happy Easter.
Ken . . . I am supposed to write up a season preview. But I CANT write up on what I have seen because I think I will be out of readers (depression = reading kryptonite).
Until there are some signings (or at least till about March 28th) I am not writing a thing. Something has to improve.
Ken, lets hang in there and hopefully, we will see some good.

I know the feeling. Let’s call it “DC United 0 - 3 Richmond Kickers.”
Even for our reserve squad that’s pathetic. They’re, what, TWO LEVELS below us?
So trust me, man…I feel your pain. Only Barca 4-1 Valladolid is keeping me alive in light of the above PLUS Arsenal’s tragedy.

Okay, as this is Easter, a day all about resurrection, here’s the positive spin. We aren’t really THIS bad because:
1) We’ll have Altiodore & Freeman back soon
2) We have 4 open Foreign spots that are going to be filled ASAP.
3) No team can really be this bad. How’s that?

I am Mr. Half Glass Full, so your post is a welcome breathe of fresh air my friend.

Hey - I’m finally watching the game right now…
So Angel is consistently cutting through the SJ defense but he doesn’t have a good strike partner right now. Your defense is meh. I dunno if its because it looks like Osorio is still trialing players (loads of subsitutions in the half). Anyhoo - clean up the back line and hope Bradley/Novak doesn’t keep calling up Jozy and you’ll be fine.

Oh Mel. The sun is shining in San Jose isnt it? Even at night . . .
MLS Cup, get ready for an Earthquake.

Ha - I’m not ready to make that claim yet. I still think its going to be a rough first season for the expansion team. Angel is the first guy to really break the wall Cochrane/Garcia have going on for our backline. Thats not a good sign for us.

It actually is a good sign - Angel is a superstar. How many of those will they encounter?
The Earthquakes have an excellent defensive feel to em. They have to considering their hair thin depth up top. But its a great thing for an expansion team to have.
Riley is on the wings now right?

Riley was at left back then he got subbed out in the second half. I think Eric Denton went in for him. You keep thinking Riley’s a winger… I believe Guerrero was at left mid with O’Brien on the right - but O’Brien seems to want to go into the middle all the time. Its a bit of a wierd situation that I think Corrales and Grabavoy are dealing with ok. Still needs work though.
Meh - everything needs work. Getting excited for the MLS season to start already?
