Ronald Waterreus to retire at Years End . . . .

By: Dave Martinez | October 19th, 2007

Yup. You heard right. Our curly maned Goalkeeper is calling it a career.

With a 6-6-5 record, a GAA under 1.79, and a team that has made the playoffs, Waterreus has been at times the hero, and at others, the goat.

What can be agreed upon is the fact that Ronnie has not been the same since that rumored ankle sprain.

And by the way, I would love for MLS to stop this ridiculous policy of not having to report injuries on time, publicly, or whatever. Its annoying. We never know for sure WHAT is going on.

But I digress.

GOOD? NO GOOD? WHAT OF WATERREUS AS A RED BULL?

Well, it really depends on which Ronnie you are talking about – the shutout king, or the after injury Walrus.

To be honest, and fair, its hard to judge his time with us. He is an older guy, who really showed up in the beginning of the season. Is the injury an excuse for his play? Possibly. But like I said . . . there is no transparency in the injury reports.

So who is to say he stunk? Who is to say he was great? The fact of the matter is, Ronnie, we never got to know ya.

Question is – how will Ronnie end his career? On the bench or starting between our pipes?

My bets on Conway. But that is just one opinion on this “World Wide Web.”

Shoot and let me know. As always, wutcha think?
