So I walked into my building today to get to my apartment. I head upstairs and the dog is going nuts – its been like 8 hours since I walked him last. But there is a problem – Boca v. Atlas was already started, in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. As the whining reached a fever pitch, I swung open the door, and “Dexter” ran out to the hallway.

I had no choice. I naturally had to walk him. But all I was thinking was “hurry your ass. Get Dexter to his favorite spots, and run back up.”

Naturally, in this rushed state, my old lady neighbor just happened to be downstairs, and decides today, of all days, she would stop, get down on one old knee, and play with my attention starved canine.

Lovely.

So while Dexter was clawing up her dress like a kitten on a scratch post, I had to sit there with a face of patience and a plaster smile to hide my hurried state. Needless to say, I missed some great action (about 30 minutes worth!). But what can I complain about? A 3 – 0 win against Atlas is all I needed.

Thank you for your indulgence. Now here is the latest from Red Bull Landia:

+ FORMER BULL UPDATE: Defender Eric Brunner, the former Red Bull 2nd round draft pick, has had quite the week! After rejecting a reformatted contract with the team, which would have involved in excess of a 50% paycut, he quickly found employment on struggling USL-1 squad, Miami FC.

More over? He scored a goal today with the United States U-23 team. But I guess he had to – the first Turkish talley was practically an assist for Brunner, who simply ball watched the Turkish attack to their goal. Still. A goal is a goal, and it was quite a good header (wasn’t Osorio looking for a player with good aeriel skills?).

By the way, the US eventually lost 3-2.

+ INJURY UPDATES: BigAppleSoccer has the scoop on the latest Bulls injuries heading into this weekends showdown against the Chicago Fire.

Reyna and Etcheverry saw their first practice time since their respective injuries but are still doubtful for this weekends action. Seth Stammler is still receiving treatment on his back and may be a week or two away.

+ Jozy Altidore was not named to the USMNT squad facing England. As this camp features European based players, it isn’t much of a shock. But I would expect Jozy to get his shot against the BiCeleste of Argentina for the Giants Stadium show down.

+ Osorio and Van Den Bergh will be out for the Chicago game. Send Marrufo a thank you card Section 8 . . .

+ RECOMMENDED READING: I have to hand it to Frank Giase of nj.com. What a great score with Bruce Arena. And the veiled shots at RBNY Management are as clear as day. Click the link and take a read. Ridiculous.

+ Shameless Self Promotion: I am always doing something. This week, as many already know, I sat down with Jimmy Conrad of the Wizards to get his views on the game, media and life. Check it out on the offsides main MLS page.

RED BULLS PREVIEW – 2008

Let me begin by saying – this is completely based on the team as currently configured. I know April 15th is right around the corner, and 2 signings can change everything, but this is the current situation.

With that said . . .

Lets begin with a Haiku . . .

Red Bulls 2008

We place all our hope
Into Osorio’s plan
May he guide wisely

SEASON PREDICTION:

12 wins 11 loses 7 ties (3rd in the East, 43 pts., Semi Final finish)

KEY ACQUISITIONS:

Juan Carlos Osorio (new head coach)
Zach Thornton
Oscar Echeverry
Eric Brunner
Luke Sassano
Danleigh Borman

KEY PLAYERS RELEASED:

Dema Kovalenko (you will be missed)
Clint Mathis (ditto)
Ronald Watterreus
Markus Schopp (not exactly KEY, but . . . )
Santino Quaranta (ditto Schopp)
Joe Vide (underrated, well trained CDM who will also be missed)

SEASON PREVIEW:

Nuts and bolts :

We left you last season at yet another brick wall performance against the team I love to hate – The New England Revo-losers.

There were our glaring weaknesses on display, for all to see. Lack of wing play. Mediocre play from our defensive wings. Absolutely no service to the most dangerous forward tandem in the MLS. And a big fat 0 on the goal side.

The list began to be compiled – we need an attacking mid, we need a left back, we need more service from the wings. We need, we need, we need.

So, in an attempt to better our course, we dumped Bruce Arena after a less than glorious reign as coach. In comes Juan Carlos Osorio, magic man who brought the Chicago Fire back from the dead (though I am sure there was some guy named Blanco who helped out situations). And all hopes were heaped on his shoulders.

The signings have been slim. The cuts have been drastic.

And here we are, days away from the first game of the season.

How much have things really changed?

The Stars

As previously mentioned, we feature the Dynamic Duo of MLS forwards – Jozy Altidore and Juan Pablo Angel (dont ask me who is Robin . . . ). Maybe 10 years ago, having that was enough to win an MLS Cup. But in this parity ridden league, you need strength on all ends.

In comes Captain America, Claudio Reyna. Reyna enjoyed a less than stellar year, with reports of a tumultuous relationship with Coach Arena making matters worse. Pile on injuries to this mediocre stew and you have Claudio Reyna, 2007.

2008, however, carries a more positive tone. Reports early and often have praised Reynas play on the field, where he is being asked to play a bit of CDM, his natural position, and CAM, the categorical opposite. And it seems he has been excelling in both areas, even if this display wasn’t quite visible in Carolina (last two games were sleepers, but he did play well in the first).

These are the teams stars, people who we will be relying heavily to carry this team.

The New Comers

Um. Zach Thornton and Oscar Echeverry. So we have depth at goal and the attacking spot.

Besides them, there is this years slew of draftees, headed by Luke Sassano and Danleigh Borman, both who may see time on the pitch as starters. Borman showed some magic in his crosses preseason. Sassano, grit. It will be interesting to track their development as the season commences.

But the most exciting new comer is Juan Carlos Osorio. He takes the cake. And he is carrying this teams expectations squarley on his shoulders.

Keep an eye on

Jon Conway. If anyone on the team is in the position of making this team float or flounder, its Conway. A life long career back up, many Bulls fans are skeptical of his ability to maintain his cool under pressure, come up with the big save, or simply maintain concentration on the pitch. Displays like last years Mendes back pass, or more recently with the mystery goal TFC’s Cunningham scored in the Carolina Cup that was in Conways hands, have fans begging for answers and hoping for the best. This will be Conways job to lose – all season long.

We’ll win the league if…

We avoid injuries, sign a key defender (Chris Innes), or a solid CDM to allow Reyna the CAM position (Lider Marmol). With them, and a healthy Dane Richards and Hunter Freeman, we will have the depth and talent to succeed.

We’ll be in trouble if…

We run into injuries. Why? Our depth cant take it. We will already be without Dane Richards till Summer. Ditto Freeman. We can not afford to plug in holes with rookie players. One more injury, and we will be looking at the Chris Leitches and John Gilkersons of the world to patch us up (in fairness, Leitch has looked ok this preseason).

The Beckham Factor

Will still be strong this season. If he stays healthy.

You might not know . . .

+ Play by Play of NY away games are done in studio, away from the field action.

+ Jozy Altidore had an offer from Reading as an immediate starter – and he rejected it.

+ Our only trophy? The La Manga Cup – a Soccer Resort in Spains club team preseason tourney

+ The logo featured above is the 2007 logo. I couldnt find the new, non-streaky one.

+ I am a Gemini!

Claudio Reyna was featured on the MLS 2008 Preview Show for the Fox Soccer Channel. And boy did he have some interesting things to say.

Of course, you cant expect controversial comments to come from fluff piece shows like this one. But, any loyal Red Bulls fan will know how to read between the lines.

Reyna was asked of the difference between this and last year (Mind you, I will be paraphrasing here).

And his answer, though mild and subtle, spoke volumes.  Here is his (interpreted) take;

“Brucie” (referring to Bruce Arena) was just coming in from being the coach of the United States National Team. He was heralded as the best coach in our nations history, and even before that, had dominated the MLS and College ranks. Basically, as far as American Soccer goes, he has seen and done it all.

A disappointing exit from the Cup leaves “Brucie” without a job. So he takes on the Red Bulls, and basically goes from Worlds Spotlight to Worlds Closet in all of a few months time.

The “biggest difference” between these two seasons is that Juan Carlos Osorio is hungry to be here. He is a motivated coach, who is driven towards success, has always wanted to be the New York Coach, and he has never tasted the glory of winning like Arena has.

WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU ABOUT BRUCE?

First off, it sounds like Reyna is saying Arena lost the bite to stay competitive in this league.

As I said, read between the lines. Reyna laid it out there for us – Arena was not motivated. He was back where he had started, in a rebuilding situation no less – a far cry from playing with Americas most polished professionals.

MLS is a league where a coach needs to have a more hands on approach. As I have said in a previous article, we aren’t quite the worlds best league, nor the worlds best developmental league – we are somewhere in the middle. Being that is the case, a Coach needs to do just that - COACH.

This is not England, where you spend months on conditioning, teaching nuances of set pieces and forward motion drives. This is MLS, where we hire kids in from College and call them “pros.”

Players need to learn proper technique, pickup on the subtleties of the game in order to improve their market value, achieve a better salary and attain a higher buyout figure for their MLS squad. This can not be done with a Coach who takes on the same approach he would take with a mens national program. Two different beasts.

My Take

Last season, when I interviewed Jozy, I asked him who had been most instrumental in his growth.  His answer shocked me, not for its admission, but for its omissions;

DM: More specifically, this season, there has been a noticeable difference in your first touch and finish. Which coach, player, person, what have you, has contributed most to this?

JOZY: Well I think John Harkes has been huge helping me throughout (my development). You know, he helped me man, along with Claudio and Juan Pablo. I mean, you see everyday in soccer . . . if that first touch is good . . . if you have a good first touch on half the plays, it will leave you in good goal scoring positions. Those guys have helped me alot.

I was REALLY expecting a Coach Bruce shout out – but it never happened. So I prodded a tad more . . .

DM: Hows your relationship with the organization, Coach Bruce . . .

JOZY: Oh, first class relationship with all my teammates, coaches, players, trainers, workers, office workers, water boys, altar boys. *chuckles* Nah, I am good with everybody. I love this organization. That is my home right now, and hopefully will be for a little bit longer.

Jozy is first class, I will give him that. But this experience, coupled with Reyna’s innuendo filled review, have really filled the gaps into my minds mental puzzle of the Bruce Arena era.

Basically? He is a great coach for polished players.

Not that he cant train youth or teach them a thing or two – but he has been there and done that. Where is the motivation to take valuable time into teaching kids when you have championships to win? He created a successful program at the University of Virginia, and when he made the leap to the pros, the teaching aspect of the game was of a lesser importance (especially when you have guys like Marco Etcheverry, Jeff Agoos, Richie Williams, John Harkes, Jaime Moreno, Raúl Díaz Arce, and Eddie Pope filling the gaps). And when he made the leap towards the National ranks, it was all about strategy and game fitness. Alas, teaching, it seems, fell to the wayside.

And motivation, understandably, can be hurt when you compare 70,000 screaming fans to 10,000 in a cavernous stadium.

In summation – will a coach that is motivated to be here and win do better than a coach of legend manning our sidelines? Only time will tell. But I think we know what Reynas answer would be.

Ireland . . . Scotland . . . anywhere that you can find men in quilts, THATS where you will find Bruce Arena!

Looking to rebound from his . . . um . . . successes? . . . as a Red Bulls coach, Bruce Arena has decided to hit the international scene with an unprecedented proposition . . . an American coach would be able to guide a European International to the promised land!

First off . . . doesnt Scotland have enough coaches?

Secondly . . . I hope he gets the job. Either.

I mean it.

Though I now look back in disgust at this season, it doesnt take away my belief that Americans need to be taken more seriously with football worldwide. And with this leap into the unknown, Bruce Arena is once again putting his face on the American charge.

His chances are very small. Just ask any european I play against on FIFA 08 live!

But it would be an impressive feat for an American to accomplish.

Read up. Bruce wants to go places! (but is mentioned in the same sentence as Steve Sampson . . . yack)

Hey everyone.

We are full steam ahead into the offseason, with no leader at our helm. Above, we have the top 9 candidates for the RBNY job, based on rumors, reader suggestions and so forth.

I also have an option for OTHER. I would definitely like to see, for those that choose that option, WHOM it is you are looking at, and why.

Personally, I would love for Mariner, Harkes, or Passarella to be the answer. But who cares what I think. Its time for YOU to decide! Enjoy!

Bruce Arena isnt the only “one and done” coach in our stable. We have had plenty. Just another notch in the belt of woe I suppose.

I mean, look at this list:

Eddie Firmani (1996)
Carlos Queiroz (1996)
Carlos Alberto Parreira (1997)
Alfonso Mondelo (1998)
Bora Milutinović (1998–1999)
Octavio Zambrano (2000–2002)
Bob Bradley (2003–2005)
Mo Johnston (2005–2006)
Richie Williams (2006; interim)
Bruce Arena (2006–2007)

Impressive or Depressing? Well, its a little bit of both. But what do we learn from this amazing list of highs and lows? Simple. Whether its an international coach with a great coaching pedigree, or a homegrown legend, RedBullMetroStars have turned every rock upside down looking for answers, and have consistently come up empty handed.

WHAT IS THE ANSWER? GREAT QUESTION!

Some teams are lucky – the answer stares them in the face. The Yankees have lost Torre, and believe that his relaxed, calm demeanor had taken the bite out of his teams fight. What did they do? Find the polar opposite in Girardi – a meticulous control freak.

The Islanders had a ton of coaching woes, up and down the line, until they decided to let a proven black balled winner a shot to turn their franchise around. They needed someone to hoist the reigns of a young team and create chemistry and excitement in their play. They found the guy with the resume – Enter Ted Nolan.

But when you look at our team, what is it that we need? Bruce was a calm, sit on the bench, eat seeds and spit out the shells kinda coach. Does that mean we need the firey opposite? Not really. The guys seemed motivated 90% of the time. So maybe its his tactics.

But Arenas coaching was a mixed bag as well – either we were allowing our guys to let go and just play (ala LA Galaxy home game) or telling them to play defense and look for opportunistic goals (pick any one of our 414192421 ties this year as an example). So as a tactician even, who would be Arenas opposite?

And looking at our team – what a mixed bag if there ever was one! We have young guns, and old dogs, and very few players at the “peak” of their soccer careers.

Even further, would our next coach also be a GM? Should we look towards bringing in seperate entities, and letting that two headed beast control the decisions on the field? Will Red Bull allow such freedom, as such freedom only bought them mediocrity in the past?

The person who can handle this type of situation would need to have a part time position as a miracle worker.

So the question then would be . . . what would YOU want in your coach, and who would YOU feel has the capacity to right this ship?

In the new world of MLS, there is no dream too big. So shoot me some names.

PERSONALLY . . .

I wouldn’t necessarily mind whether the coach is international or a domestic product.

And I would resist that itching feeling to “out do” Alexei Lalas bringing sexy back to LA.

I just want a proper fit.

Here are a couple of names. Off the top of my head.

JOHN HARKES

From my interview last month with Jozy, when asked whom has been most influential on the coaching staff towards his growth, he credited John Harkes and mentioned NO ONE ELSE. Not Arena. Not Williams. Harkes. Closely followed by Angel and Reyna.

Our young team needs a developmental leader, and a person intimate with the history of our league and its financial budgetary constraints. Harkes has his ear to the street so far as recruiting and youth experience, and he already knows THIS team.

People doubted Preki. Look at what he did. Tom Soehn was doubted – and DC once again hoisted the supporters shield.

Lets face it. Harkes would give us at the very least a sense of continuity in our team management, enhanced only by the respect the current team has for him.

RAY HUDSON

For my long time readers, you know I have a giant man crush on Hudson. Forget the fact that he was once a DC SCUMBAG. (he did run them into a HORRIBLE record. thats a check in my book!)

He is the biggest proponent to US Soccer that was NOT in the 90’s MNT’s.

He is a fiery coach who wears his heart on his sleeve.

Need an example? Just ask Wikipedia . . . .

Hudson quickly became known for his fiery personality. One memorable incident occurred after a Miami home win against the Tampa Bay Mutiny. The Fusion scored five goals, an offensive outburst for soccer, but Hudson was apparently unsatisfied. He stormed into the media tent and up to the podium. He said, “I’ve got nothing to say. Any questions? ANY QUESTIONS? No? OK!” and stormed right back out. Interviews with players after the game indicated that Hudson was angered by a perceived lack of effort, even with the Fusion’s dominant win.

Love it.

He led the Fusion to the best regular season record for 2001. Went to the Semifinals.

Went on to DC. Ran them into the ground. yay.

He played for Newscastle and in Germany.

He is a reporter, and announcer on several international club and national games.

Bottom line – Ray Hudson has the scope necessary to excel in this job. The only negative may be recruiting. But then again, none of us know what connections he has made throughout his career.

LA VOLPE

Yes, La Volpe. Here is the deal. I follow La Previa very closely. And after a 4-0 shalacking at the hands of Boca Juniors, La Volpe is looking for a way out. From the sounds of it, he hates what Argentine soccer has become, the over blown reactions to everything on the pitch, and the ridiculous pessimistic attitude he confronts on a daily basis there.

And, of course, the fans are sick of losing.

La Volpe did a good job with the Mexican MNT’s. Losing your job after losing to the Argentine powerhouse seems a bit much. But it all falls on La Volpe.

He is fairly familiar with the region, and is looking for a comfortable setting to put his plans into motion and just play. I am not particularly a huge fan, but hey, he does have a bit of a pedigree.

DIEGO SIMEONE

Here is another one looking for a new and exciting challenge away from his home confines. And why not MLS? He is still trying to get his teeth into the coaching game, and may I say, he has been doing an excellent job.

How good? His first season with Estudiantes, after a brief coaching period in the tumultuous Racing Club, he achieved League Title with a big win over Boca Juniors. Hey, are you telling me he wont be able to topple New England? Please . . . .

And btw . . . that Argentine influx? What do you think Simeone would do? We would be the most beautiful team on the pitch, with my biclestes running wild along side my USMNT boys . . . ah, to dream a little dream . . .

PAUL MARINER

Come now. Does Mariner NEED an introduction? An English legend with a vast coaching pedigree, and coaching under what is quickly becoming the flagship franchise in our league (damned revolosers).

I think the name says it all. You cant go wrong with this guy. At least, I think so.

==========================================

Simeone would be my dream pick, with Paul Mariner trailing a close second.

And by my short list, you can tell that i am being more realistic than some. Dreaming is not so far away in MLS as it used to be, but I am not of the school of people that stress the NEED for an international superstar coach (Capello, Klinsman etc) as much as looking for the right fit.

As always, tell me what you think, and give me some more ideas! This is the mian issue of concern for us this offseason. We need a captain to steer this ship right. Again. Can we make a fitting pick this time? I hope so.

Well, leave it up to me to leave during the most tumultuous week in the Red Bulls 2007 season!

Lets start from the start shall we ?

RED BULLS LOSE TO THE REVOLUTION

I missed the game. Ill admit to that. Disney doesnt have any interest in playing RBNY games I suppose.

But, from what Ive read from my favorite sources, we didnt look great or horrible out there. A very mediocre performance.

And of course, the vultures of Major League Soccer, the Revolosers, once again turned on the engines at the right time, as JPA went down with a concussion. They victimized us much like they victimized the Fire last night (which Jet Blue helped me watch!). They have it down to a science.

Once again, after a season full of promise, it was a one and done series.

BRUCE ARENA “resigns”

In Europe, football teams take no guff. We have European ownership. Look at what happens.

Though, as Eric Wynalda pointed out, Red Bull didnt have the “patience” to run with Arenas plan, I still think this may have been the right move.

We have the highest payroll. We have talented players capable of making a run. And yet, we made the early exit, much like last year.

The rumor mill is going strong, as Metro fans are calling for their favorite coaches to be hired. Harkes? Agoos? Ray Hudson? Mourinho? Capello? Hell, someone even mentioned SHEP MESSING.

At least we have speculation to look forward to.

INSURRECTION

Who would have thought?

ARENA v. REYNA

Not me. But that is what Dyer is reporting. There was major insurrection going down in our locker room, to the point where only 4 players (Mathis, Angel, Conway, DVB) decided to speak to the media for the very last of the teams media days. All saying positive things about Arena of course. But what did the other fellas think?

Mom always said if you have nothing nice to say, dont say a word. Ill take the silence to mean exactly that.

=================================================

So the mess continues for our favorite cursed franchise.

And we have an offseason to take time and rebuild. Again.

BTW, if you were wondering, I am rooting for the Dynamo to win it all. I hate the Revs.

More updates to come. And Im glad to be back!

YUP. ITS A TIE FOLKS.

So much for pouring on the pressure.

That lasted one half. The first one.

And clearly, the second belonged to New England (at least, quality goal scoring opportunity wise).

Now, with a tie heading into Gilette, our backs are truly against the wall.

What is it about us playing against the Revolosers?!??!

Jeckyl and Hidden

So, who are we is my question?

Are we the first half juggernauts?

Or are we the second half clueless, grasping at straws, desperation in our eyes football squad?

Before the game, I really tried to drive home the point that TONITE was a night for GOALS! And the first half really drove home the point – Me and Bruce Arena, seamingly, eye to eye on strategy! But then the second half? Oof.

2 Big goose eggs.

Jozy put it best. At halftime, he was asked for his impression on their strong play. He simply said, and I am paraphrasing, “We didnt score so it was all for nothing.”

BRUCE ARENA

BRAVO on the gameplan

BOOS all around for the substitutions.

Sinisa in for Doe? What happened with Mathis?

DVB for Leitch – well . . . what can ya do . . .

But then . . . Mathis for Reyna? In the 85th minute?

Mathis needs some ball time to get something done. He should have been in for Doe. And Reyna could have been subbed for Vide, Drop Kovi in the dominant central mid position.

EDIT: Got another idea for a change at this point. Mathis in for Doe. DVB for Leitch is an unfortunate given. But then, why not Mendes in for Reyna, move Stammler up to Dema’s spot, Dema to Reynas. I dont know. Just did not like the change sequence.

We need the same spirit of the 1st half, in BOTH halves of the next game. If not, we are looking at another early exit.

And if we are in need of a goal yet again, PLEASE do not hesitate to press the CLINT MATHIS button. Because throwing a rookie into a match and expecting a win just isnt logical (unless that rookie is Dane Richards).

SO NOW WHAT?!

We are off to Gilette folks. And we have a week to think about it.

===================================================

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Claudio Reyna held down the middle of the field, and contributed to key defensive stops / step ins.
GAME GOAT: The Substitutes. Sorry. What else can I point at as a negative besides this? Substitutions were not what we needed at the times they were executed. I cant name Arena goat since, besides these subs, he was on the ball.
PLAY OF THE GAME: Matt Reis robs Francis Doe. That was the game.

HERE WE GO AGAIN

FSC: 7:30pm. YOU GOTTA GET IN THE GAME!

For the third time in five years, we face off, in the postseason, against another strong New England team.

For the fourth time this year, these two teams will collide. And the Revodouchers have the season advantage, with 2 wins and 1 tie.

So, as I always love to say, THROW HISTORY OUT THE WINDOW.

The Bulls have an excellent chance at an upset.

Don’t believe me?

Check it . . . booyakasha.

=========================================

EXORCISE THE GHOSTS OF GILLETTE!

There is something about playing in that Northern stinkhole that really does us in.

Clear example? Look no further than last game. We more than held our own, in fact, dare I say, we dominated many periods of that game. But an innocent 40 yard back pass catches Conway sleeping, game over.

Luckily tonites game is in our house. And I hope to see a bunch of you there tonite, nasty weather and all!

We need an explosive effort for the win tonite. A dynamic assembly of defensive smarts coupled with opportunistic offensive play. Watching the DC/FIRE game last night, it seemed that this is what they were missing. If Chicago loses that series, its all their fault. With a one goal lead, they decided to sit back and take the win. But what will happen at DC, with a healthy Emilio and friends heading their attack?

My point is simple – we have to score first, and continue to put on the pressure, but not at the cost of our defense. We need to be DYNAMIC out there.

And this will be the only way to exorcise our Gillette Demons. A multi goal effort tonite, coupled with smart defensive play, will make a trip to New England a little less daunting.

I know. Its so easy for me to say “I want a perfect performance.” But this is New England. And we have the fire power.

BRING OUT THE GUNS

Sure, they have Twellman, Joseph, Noonan and company. But our attack is nothing to sneeze at!

The Incomperable, Every Award Holding, Greatest Acquisition in our clubs history, Juan Pablo Angel. Rising star in the US and Beyond, Jozy Altidore. We have the speed and attack of a Francis Doe and a Dane Richards. And off the bench? Our miracle man, Clint Mathis, and fan fave, John Wolyniec.

Of course, Michael Parkhurst, John Avery, James Riley, Shalrie Joseph, Matt Reis and the rest of their squad will be guarding the gates. Tenaciously. But we have the tools, more so than any other year, to find the seams in their attack and create opportunities.

The last game killed me. We played so well. Hell, we OUT PLAYED THEM.

In that game, we saw that this team is more than capable of taking on New England IN New England. Tonite, our attack needs to make a statement so we nullify their suppossed “home field advantage.”

MY PROJECTED LINEUP

==========ANGEL======ALTIDORE==========
DOE===========================RICHARDS
==========DEMA=======REYNA============
DVB=======PARKE=======MENDES=====FREEMAN
=============CONWAY==================

With everyone being healthy, and having a core here that has played together for longer stretches in the season, I think this would be our best option.

Doe will add a difficult element for New England to cover. He can be the difference between a blowout and a horserace. If Does on fire, Angel and Altidore open up. If not, well, we make the Revs lives easier.

Of course, the other option would be Dema at the Left flank, and either Stammler or Vide by Reyna. But, I think offense is important this game. Give Doe a Go! (ooh . . . . time to make t-shirts!)

===========================================

PREDICTION:
You want optimism? RBNY 3 – 1 REVOLUTION. Come on boys. We need a big win tonite.

1 – Altidore
1 – Angel
1 – Richards

. . . . and an own goal. hahahaa
