The Tin Delgado Rumor is Back, Bigger and Better than Ever
By: Martha | February 8th, 2007
The suggestion that Tin Delgado, Ecuador’s all-time leading scorer, might join the Red Bulls has been drifting around for a few months, but the fact that he’s currently in the midst of a year-long suspension for a brawl in Ecuador’s domestic league combined with the total lack of actual news on the topic caused the rumor to wane. Recently, though the Ecuadorian press has been reporting that talks have moved beyond the casual, friendly chatting stages, and that a deal is actually in the works.
It sounds like Delgado is likely to sign with RBNY, but only if FIFA decides his ban is valid only inside Ecuador. If it applies everywhere, given the man’s advanced age (for a footballer, anyway — he’s 33) and his oft-injured status, the Red Bulls would be nuts to sign him if he can’t even step on the pitch until December. Even if he is a proven striker. And healthy (right now). So, fingers crossed FIFA helps us out — the deal was supposedly read to go last night, so it seems everyone is just sitting around, waiting for FIFA to hand down a verdict.

Martha, I hope he gets a chance to play for RBNY. I think she still has ennough to make the deal a good for the club, as his display at the WC showed.
The only downside (assuming they don’t overpay him) is that El Tin’s personal website no longer plays his theme song.
