All Star Angel Going International? River Plate Calling?

By: Dave Martinez | July 24th, 2008

First of all, congrats to Angel, who came off the bench in the second half for Blanco, and did an excellent job, with a goal being waved off. Shame. It was a hell of a finish.

But the All Star Game isn’t the only thing on Juanpies mind!

Angel recently had “productive” discussions with Colombian National Team Coach Jorge Luis Pinto. His desire to return to the national squad has been no secret - but a conversation with the coach, where both parties seem satisfied speaks positively for him.

But that isnt the only international Angel news folks.

People in Argentina - River Plate fans in particular - are already clammoring after Juanpie let out these words - “I would like to return to River Plate.”

Wow.

“I always said that, for me, River was the most beautiful experience I’ve had in sports, becaue it was a childhood dream and if the conditions were right, I would like to come back. It makes me feel good that my name is mentioned (with River) because it showsI left good memories in my stay at Argentina.”

Angel went on: “I dont think this league carries importance in the short term, but I feel it has every piece that it would need to be one in the long term.”

Angel wears his heart on his sleeve - share your thoughts on Angels future.

No Angel, please dont go and leave us with the other colombian (Sketchyverry). Not only is he my favorite player on the Bulls but he is my favorite fellow colombian in the league (sorry Toja)

This will be very sad, but if the offer lands on his table he should take it. It’s River Plate. River and Boca are two of the biggest clubs not in europe. And, let’s face it, MLS is like playing baseball in Japan.

Honestly, about sketchyverry, In the last game he really seemed hurt, and I’m beginning to doubt Osorio, with his commitment to keep starting him every fracking game. I mean, Wolyniec at least will attempt to touch the ball.

I hope we at least keep Angel until the end of the season, and I can only hope that Rojas/VandenBerg/Angel/Richards will score a ton of goals in the second half.

I really hope to see Osorio stick to the 3-5-2 we saw against the galaxy last week, because that was a damn enjoyable game were both sides seemed to be playing well.

Joe - I love the 3-5-2 and am with you on that one.

Props to Angel for possibly having a way back into the Colombian mix. Thats great, even if he misses a game or two with us.

As far as River - He would need to make the move soon, because he has also stated his desire to return to Nacional in Colombia to finish off his career.

He played really really well last night, just needed to get out of the way.
But if RBNY wants to make a move they need him to be playing, and playing WELL this season. Losing JPA to River would be a bad start.

MLS is a joke. The biggest, best and wealthiest city in the nation has two all league strikers in Angel and Altidore and we are gonna lose both to foreign teams and probably get nothing whatsoever in return?

the truth is if they were not getting injured playing on green concrete and having their egos crushed by being forced to play with terrible teammates against pathetic competition and still losing then they might be more open to staying here.

MLS needs to get their heads out of their asses and get some money into this league. Star power brings fans which brings money which brings success for the league.

    You dont have to go the cosmos route and bankrupt the league to do it, though these days I doubt a team like the cosmos would do anything less than take the country by storm. But you need to inject real talent, not just models who play football {Im looking at you Becks}

Please tell me you’re kidding with this argument! Completely contradictory and you obviously don’t know much about the league or the game in general. Please don’t go around saying “MLS is a joke” when you don’t know anything about it.

MLS has made great strides in the recent history, bringing in world class players in a league only 13 years old! If someone were to tell me that the Premiership/Serie A/La Liga were world class leagues just 13 years old, I would laugh in their face. The NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL all took time to become prestigious, as will MLS. So far I am pleased with our progress and the MLS is clearly on its way.

Cute pic! Maybe he was just being polite to Intl. Media again. He probably does want to go where he gets a great forward partner and service. Maybe just hinting for improvements, or he will THEN want to go. He was more polite on Spanish TV than others, especially Becks, whom didnt stop! Agree w/ last poster but they do need more cash spent on players. If JPA had played 1st half he would have had 2 to 3 goals. Wrong mix for him and how frustrating to wait for a pass, he can get that at home, lol!

p.s. Becks showed he is world class, best player overall for the full 90. Is he top 20 of world? No…but top 200, yes, cant help hes good looking! Funny comment on Colombian site was *Which was more interesting? 1. Becks vs. Blanco is Beauty and the Beast, or 2. Becks vs. Angel is the Battle of the Metrosexual*! Funny coincidence the word Metro, lol. All three showed their worth and talent and nice some others got to shine too.

Dont everyone go thinking Angel will be gone any time soon. Do I feel he will resign at years end? No. But with his inspiration from the national team squad, he may want to go to a River Plate for a larger more respectable stage to display his abilities. Man would that ever hurt this bostero . . .
