All The Bull: Cunningham trade?
By: Dave Martinez | July 30th, 2008- Would Jeff Cunningham be the cure for our goal scoring needs up top? Would he be a good fit with Angel’s game? If you are day dreaming, not so fast. Cunningham’s baggage has ruled him out of the Red Bulls plans, so says King Blogger Ives. A Cunningham signing, especially in light of TFC’s current scoring woes, would have been a grasp of desperation by the organization. Letting his 99 goals pass the team by is a move I actually agree with. In the stage the Bulls are currently at, any disruption to their chemistry, especially one that carries the ego load that Cunningham is sure to bring, will put another stag on the growth of the squad. By not biting, Red Bull shows that yes, they are desperatefor a striker, but not stupid.
- And speaking of that growing chemistry, another piece has been added to the puzzle this week. Get this: Diego Jimenez, after haggling for better pay with the Bulls for quite some time, has accepted a developmental deal.</ Yes. Those are the guys that get paid 12-17k a year to play pro ball. It makes you wonder if the Bulls are at least going to shack the guy up!
- Peter Betts, a reserves coach in England for the Haverhill Rovers Reserves, is coming here for a stint to train the Red Bulls Youth Academy players. The coach seems to have quite the resume. You can read more about it here.
- Finally, Hunter Freeman has been linked to Norwegian side IK Start. Fellow American, Clarence Goodson, is already featured on the now relegated division 2 team. Hey- I am a big fan of Hunter, and am pretty dissappointed to see his minutes being reduced, and his Olympic spot being taken by Marvell Wynne. Hunter is a player of great possibility - great size and talent to work with there. Though I wouldnt expect a move before the seasons end, a trip to Norway during the winter months is always a possibility.

Altodire = gone
Angel = likely gone
Hunter = possibly goneI wonder what we can expect in return, if anything, and what this will mean for the team.

Jeeze forcing players to take developmental deals with salaries that low, especially players that are clearly being brought in to be part of the first team is ridiculous.
17K is most people’s rent in NYC/NJ.
Again, how do we call this a professional team if we just pay people cab fare.
About Hunter Freeman, it will be sad to see him go, as I believe he’s one of the only players who’s shown himself decent this year. And I bet he doesn’t have to worry about his salary getting slashed in half mid-season.

anytime I hear ” developmental deal” I cringe. I couldn’t make ends meet at 35k 4 years ago!

Man, at this rate, I wish I could suit up, lol! You are on top of things, as always good work. I think the immediate chemistry/ impact is important, to find a short term fix. He and the Lil Fish just dont mix with JPA, would be a flop, pun intented. I am still hopeful my established, dynamic Colombian can squeeze in there!

How did we let Buddle go, a current LA player who is also a former Red Bull.
He looked to be in complete command at the July 19th game.
We have no firepower.

Matt - Buddle sucked in an RBNY kit. Simple as that. It looks like Becks and Donovan have taken the kid under their wing and showing him what it takes to be a striker. Add a little Gullitt influence (which is a bunch of screaming and yelling from what I hear) and you have a player that was reaching his potential. A knock on Bruce Arena was that, after years if playing established players, he did not emphasis the further education of younger players - Harkes would usually handle that.
Bottom line - Buddle is thriving in a system that is focusing in on him and improving his play. 100% a better player today than 1 year ago.
