All The Bull: New Prospects, Dane Richards, Hunter Freeman and mo’ . . .
By: Dave Martinez | August 14th, 2008
First off, permit me to apologize for over 3 days of none posting - a record for this blogging nerd. I will have pictures of what the hell I have been up to soon. In the meanwhile, I figure a good old “All The Bull” should bring everyone up to speed on things. Again, my sincerest apologies.
Riding the high of the DC game, alot of interesting and odd ball news has been popping up left and right. Here is some stuff you may have missed (and I can only blame me-self):
+ Here we are, in midseason, and Hunter Freeman finds himself in an interesting position: left out. Word was spreading of Norwegian club IK Start flirting with the Red Bulls right back, to compliment fellow American, Clarence Goodson. Of course, many felt that it was just that - a little flirtation that would lead to nothing. Freeman, under contract with the Bulls, had to be here regardless. So to everyones surprise, Freeman signs with IK Start in the middle of the season. This rubbed Coach Osorio the wrong way, and he has since been relegated to the bench. Now, according to the incomparable Brian Lewis, the Bulls made a counter offer, which was nowhere near Starts proposal. Now, Freeman waits in limbo. Osorio has the power to play Freeman - but with the 3-5-2 finally coming back into play, and the influx of talent for that system, his usefulness as an offensive right back has been practically nullified (meaning: don’t expect him back on the pitch any time soon).
+ Dane Richards, meanwhile, has pleasantly surprised us all; he will be made available to the Bulls for the upcoming TFC game, and is hoping to play.
+ Now onto the striker search. Many may have heard, through various sources, that Atlanta Silverback striker and USL leading scorer, Macoumda Kandji of Senegal, has been offered a deal. The one thing holding him back is an absurd transfer fee requested by the Silverbacks, rumored to be 200k. Kandji fits the mold Osorio is looking for to a tee - he is 6′4″, excellent in the air, and not afraid to press forward. Now, the Bulls have until Fridays transfer deadline to make this happen.
+ And the Post also reports the Bulls are pursuing Panamanian striker Gabriel Torres, a 19 year old phenom. Brian Lewis offers us video of both players in action. Kandji just looks like a Bull (no pun intended) just running over the Miami defense. Torres, on the other hand, looks like a young lightning bolt, able to cause fits for anyone trying to contain him. Check out the video and see for yourself.
+ The Post also reports Gambian striker, Sainey Tourey is under trial. He comes with an impressive youth resume, and was also a trialist for Arsenal (not the Argentine one) not too long ago.
Now, I have a follow up coming to our story a few weeks ago “NJSEA Abuse v. ESC.” Just as a refresher, this was the story of Thomas Binkley, Red Bulls fan of the year, getting banned for life for swearing. “Binks” will be giving us an update and inside look on that whole situation. Check back later today for more.

Kandji! Please let that be for real, he’s what I love in a striker: big, fast, strong and tall.

great to see you back and Im curious about the mystery!
the striker search is crucial especially since it looks like we are doomed to lose Angel this offseason. Perhaps a change of our luck and a meaningful trip to the playoffs will change our fortunes with him.
I might as well mention now how pleased I am with the addition of Pietravallo!!!
This is exactly the kind of player Ive been waiting for. I was very sad to lose Vide for some of the same reasons.
that midfield is crucial IMO and Pietravallo finally brings the kind of aggressiveness and toughness we need to win and keep balls in the midfield and to disrupt opponents midfield intentions.
It all begins for us there on offense and begins there for us on defense. Finally a player who can wreak havoc there on the opposition. Our little version of Gattuso

Hey Mike - I am with you. Freeman is a player I like alot on this team, but lets face it - he is best used in the 4-4-2 back wing. His D is excellent, his crosses always a thread. Freeman > Wynne. Shame he is done with em.

NLR - dont know if you have heard but alot of Bulls fans dont like him already, which is a shame. Between him and Cichero, there is a bite and aggression this team has sorely needed all year.

Love the Gattuso reference! Not sure why metro/bulls fans dont always understand the So. American style and attitude of play, thats too bad as its great…Tick, tick, tick…Welp, time and money are catching us! I have my fingers crossed for 2 forwards, any from your post for youth, and rotating in a veteran, preferably my dynamic Colombian for strength. We shall see if JCO continues to be a wizard of time, money, and roster space! Yikes, should I get my rosary?

wait, what? People are down on Pietravallo? How is this possible? The guy is exactly what NY needs not only as a team but as a city trying to embrace a ‘new’ sport.
attitude, toughness, blue collar mentality, never back down near thuggery.
Whats not to like?
Honestly Im not sure I can conceive of anything about him that people would not be into.
Please elaborate, please educate me!

NLR - he was introduced in the LA game as a last minute sub, and his inability to acclimate himself with his surroundings was blamed for that tying goal. Its been an uphill battle ever since (in the eyes of some). Is it right? Not really. I like the bite he has to his game. And another thing to the small but vocal group of haters is that he is paid more than Rojas or Cichero. Personally? I like his play. Some say that for the same money, we could have Dema Kovalenko. I love Dema, but Pietra, in my opinion, hasnt even begun to show us what he can bring to the table.
