AMADO MISSES US! (translations for the non-bilinguals)
By: Dave Martinez | September 6th, 2007
REMEMBER THIS GUY? DID WE EVER KNOW HIM?!
Well, he remembers you – and he wants back into your lives.
El Diario (which is the spanish Daily News of New York) interviewed Mr. Guevara, and, plain and simple, he wants back into New York.

Its raining frogs in New York City folks . . .
So what did he say? For the non bilinguals . . . .
Well, for starters, through all his successes in Honduras with Motagua and his play with the National Team, he claims to have a little “thorn in his heart.” He misses New York. And he wants back.
In reference to the way he handled his situation with Preki and Chivas, “It was an error and that we clearly see,” were the words of Amado Guevara. Yes, THAT Amado Guevara, was speaking in reference to his obnoxious behavior with Preki, his staff, and Chivas.
On MLS:
“Now people speak differently of MLS. Its growing and is on the road to converting itself into one of the most important in the world. . . .all of this makes me dream, it motivates me . . . . I want to be a champion with Red Bull, which I couldnt do with the Metrostars,” he declared, and I quote, enthusiastically.
His Promise:
“And, on top of all of this, I promised (a championship) to the fans of New York, and I want to Deliver. I can see myself playing with Reyna and Angel.”
SO HERE WE GO . . . .
Amado was a pain. He did get into trouble. But can you name one person in this modern MLS market that is a game changer, a show stopper, a pressure loving, spotlight stealing creative from touch to finish #10 quite like Amado? A person that can get that elusive cross to Angel quite like he could?
Just to make things clear, and after alot of pondering, yes, I would love em back here. Lets face it – he can still play with the best of em – and if you need a reminder . . . .
REMEMBER HIM NOW? I DO.
THIS IS WHY HE WOULD NOT BE A LOCKER ROOM CANCER . . . .
“Locker Room Cancer” is the worst phrase ever, but it seems to be one that is always attached to Amado, with good reason.
Here is my theory. Amado has always been the Big Fish in a Drinking Glass. Motagua. Metrostars. Red Bulls. The reliance on him, even with Djorkaeff around, was absurd. Am I the ONLY one that remembers that ridiculous stat Shep Messing would dribble over each week? “If Guevara gets less that 20 touches, this team is doomed, and here is a chart to prove my point.” Every game Amado didnt touch the ball it seemed all is lost.
But that was before Angel.
And Mathis.
And Reyna.
And Arena.
And the growing Altidore.
Amado would no longer be the big fish, but a part of the school. And the humbling of this man would begin in that lockerroom, which is tightly controlled, and no longer his to be had.
AND NOW, ON THE FIELD . . . .
First off, I must clarify, Chivas has the rights to Amado. So if we even wanted him this year, it would take a trade of some sort. Whats the sense in speculating about trades in a scenario this remote anyway?
In spite of this, playing with the parts that we have, here is a look at what RBNY COULD look like with Guevara IF that infinitesmal chance were to come through, and we lost no starters in the trade (maybe except Dane Richards):
—————Altidore————JPA———
Guevarra———————————-Mathis
—————Reyna——–Kovalenko———-
VDB———-Mendes——–Parke——-Freeman
——————–Waterreus———————
Assed out: Magee, Vide and Richards.
Freeman would start, since he would have more roaming space with Richards on the bench. Leitch would back em.
Looks like a killer lineup to face. A lineup that could contend with the best MLS has to offer. Maybe even a lineup that can get us past the hump of beating DC and the Revs. God i hate those guys . . . .
=====================================================
Bottom line, his locker room antics will be quelled by a bunch of guys and a world class coach who dont take anyones garbage.
That leaves his on the field performance. And he is motivated. He feels he has much to prove. And, lets face it, with this Beckham fiasco, he feels he has more face time to enhance his value worldwide.
God bless em.
For all the negative attached to an Amado return, I think the positives far outweigh them.

I love amado and completly agree. There was to much pressure on him. BUt look at the positives: He played with passion, the fans loved him especially the children, I still see his jerseys at the game, great crosses for JPA, he never missed a game, great on penalty shots, free kicks, This would be awesome lineup go get him.
Great article,
Ken
