AMERICAN SOCCER WANTS YOUR OPINION RBNY FANS!

By: Dave Martinez | August 2nd, 2007

OK FOLKS! THEY ASKED FOR IT! SO GIVE IT TO EM!

Ray Hudson and the boys at GOLTV’s AMERICAN SOCCER want to know . . . what do you think about the Red Bulls?

Send your opinions to : americansoccer@goltv.tv . And read on for what else they spoke about.

REYNA TALK

This weeks addition of AMERICAN SOCCER (Ray Hudsonless, but still, pretty good . . . I have to write a tribute to Ray Hudson one day . . . ) featured an email from a frustrated RED BULLS fan .. . . .. . .

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH THE RED BULLS?!! HOW CAN THEY TURN IT AROUND AND IS THE LACK OF CREDIBILITY IN THE MIDFIELD (REYNA) TO BLAME?

LOVE YOUR SHOW,

BOBBITO RIVADENEIRA, NYC, NY

This sparked a conversation amongst the hosts about Claudio Reyna, where they whole heartedly agreed (a rarity in the show) that Reyna was not worth the DP. The allusion was made that if Reyna was worth a DP, what would be so crazy about making Keller one too. Makes you think.

To most reading this, I would venture to say that statement makes perfect sense.

Ive been a Reyna MARK for YEARS, just from the USMNT. Loved em. His vision was amazing, his composure was our saving grace. But now, today, all that doesnt matter. The logic is undeniable :

Both Reyna and Keller are American Legends, ruling our defensive zone for years. Both standouts and Gods in United States Soccer lore. Both just leaving from two of the greatest leagues in the world. Why SHOULDNT Keller expect a DP if Reyna is one!

………

The question was bought up - Arent Americans worth a DP spot too? They are. But at the top of their game. Like Landon Donovan.

But are they right? Was Reyna not worth the DP?

Look, at this point, we need more, we need it now, and if Reyna can’t cope in this aggresive, physical league, he should announce an early retirement and call it a career. This is coming from a true fan of his - if we all dont see something more, especially in the big TFC or LA GALAXY games, things need to be analyzed. An adjustment period shouldnt take nearly 3/4’s of a season.

Maybe we can look somewhere other than Virginia to score some personnel . . . . naaaaahhhhhhh.

STADIUM UPDATE

They show the stadium plot. I see nothing. Just a bunch of maps and cars. But no construction?

I gotta admit though . . . I love those stadium drawings.

“The stadium should be completed sometime by the end of 2008,” said Nick Sakiewicz. September or October or so.

Lets make it happen Nicky . . . do it for the people that hate watching soccer in a cavernous stadium. Thank you.

PS: Football lines stink too.

I am torn on this. I feel as though Reyna is a very very good player. However as I said in my last comment, it might not be his fault. I’m going to place the blame on coach Arena. He quite often drops to a defensive midfielder role, as Arena placed him for the 2006 World Cup squad. This just doesn’t seem like Reyna’s natural position. He’s more of an attacking middy. He’s got great vision, but (unfortunately) in my opinion, his old age isn’t letting him make the plays that he used to be able to do.

Is Reyna a wasted DP? No… but the way the Red Bulls play him? . . . yes.

Still, I feel as though he isn’t performing at the level that I, and certainly you, wouldn’t want him to be at. He just seems old and sluggish, but I -don’t- blame him. It’s the role he is committed to by Arena, and the general way that the team attacks. They get wide and try to play it into the middle from the wings, which basically cuts Reyna out of the picture, since the wing backs push up quite a bit (and leads to a lot of our terrible break away conceded goals).
