An Inspired Angel - All Star MVP, and other junk
By: Dave Martinez | July 20th, 2007
Amongst the barrage of rumors about the alleged unhappiness of our DP du jour, JP Angel goes off and shows everyone what he is capable of, in an inspired, one goal, balls out performance.
I guess all he needed was a little service after all. . .
Watching Angel the past few weeks, its been hard NOT to notice his apparent discontent. Hell, I have no proof of that, other than what my eyes see (kind of how I feel about Barry Bonds - I can SEE he took steroids, I don’t need the proof).
Turn back the clock the past few games, and tell me you don’t sense the dejection? From the starting circle, the man has had his head down, that toothy smile hidden behind a pair of angry, frowning lips - not anywhere near the face in those famous RBNY Promo pics.

Oh it feels like only yesterday . . . . um . . . wait.
But what did we see Thursday night?! The man who shoved nine goals down everyones throats meerly 2 months ago. The confidence, the swagger, that press savvy interview . . . all of it. THAT is the guy we had. And that is the guy we all want back.
Its up to the players and the coach. Its up to them to get Angel believing again. Arena has to start using some new tactics, because our plodding offense is in desperate need of a new look. When this man believes in something, as he did in his honeymoon with us, he can do amazing things.
This Week - the Dema Factor?
Now from what i am hearing, Dema is right around the corner from making a nice little comeback. And it couldnt come at a better time. Dema, much like Olsen for our Copa squad, is the only player on the team that exhibits the desire to tackle someones face in. I emphasis the word EXHIBITS. I know we have players on the team more than capable, with a ton of heart, but none of them match what Dema brings to the table. And its a sad development, considering . . . .
WHAT GOFF SAID
*New York has no intention of re-signing van den Bergh and Schopp after this season and will ask Kovalenko ($197,000) to take a significant pay cut to remain with the club.

Now, does this rumor hold water, or is this just DC Scum kicking us while we are REELING, right before a major confrontation?
Makes you wonder.
And no, Mr. Goff, I am not saying YOU perpetrate the rumor - I am saying SCUMNATICS are very much capable of turning that trick.
Dema Kovalenko is part of the soul of this squad. Look at the past few weeks without him and tell me its just a coincedence. I am sorry, but even the most ardent Seth Stammler backer must admit that, on the field, he isnt 1/10th the defensive presence Dema is. And thats not to single Stammler out. It goes for everyone.
And what a coincedence that, the weekend he may come back, this story appears, just to rain on what little parade we may have. Man I hate DC.
btw. what can I tell ya folks - I can see the DVB and Schopp rumor being true. Selective reasoning.
PREDICTION: RBNY 2 - 1 DC
Altidore, Mathis
Luciano
PS: Thanks everyone. This is the first of a few of my observations, and they prolly wont always be this long. But lets go RBNY. And thanks for having me. DOWN DC!!!!!!!!!!!

Angel was incredible at the all-star game. Playing with Eddie and Juan made him look virtually unstoppable for the first half hour or so. Doesn’t Nie have any playmakers who can lob balls over the defense or stick a couple through balls past the defense when Angel makes his moves in the center and bursts through?

Thats what DVB and Schopp were for, and thats why I choose to believe that side of the rumor, as oppossed to the Dema part.

Angel is the real deal…and Dema is key part of the squad but Arena needs to use him on Defense or in a destroyer role like Gattuso.
