And Just Like That, All the Wind Goes out of Our Bragging and Smack-Talking

Well, hell. All that pride I felt over RBNY being undefeated this winter was stripped away this weekend as the team lost to Houston and then drew with Real Salt Lake. On the plus side, Dave Van den Bergh scored his team-leading third preseason goal in the RSL game (which RBNY reportedly dominated), Jeff Parke and Marvell Wynne both showed some fitness by playing the whole RSL match, and Ronald Waterreus continues to kick as in goal, thus fueling the rumors that John Conway will be soon be traded.
In other news, everyone at camp — including the great Bruce Arena himself — has been impressed by the play of the surprisingly productive Liberian trialist Ansu Toure. Such has been the quality of Toure’s play that rumor has it Arena may stop looking for another striker, confident that the former Minnesota Thunder man will fit the bill. Which, among other things, means we won’t have to spend a ton try to bring in a veteran striker. This, in turn, means we save those pennies to offer Zidane the mere $15-20 million (or so) he seems to require to suit up in the US for a single season.
