AROUND THE WORLD: Iraqi TRIUMPH
By: Dave Martinez | July 26th, 2007Sometimes its better to hear the good against the bad news we always get.
War Torn Iraq is standing in the face of evil and saying SCREW OFF. Risking life and limb doing it . . .

A mere five years ago, Saddam Hussein and his sons took great pleasure in “disciplining” his national team whensoever they failed to meet their lofty expectations.

Read up on it. The atrocities are unparalleled.
Now, the beautiful game is growing and flourishing, as the Iraqi people look to sports, much like we did in the lat 70’s, early 80’s, to bring out a sense of pride and nationalism long ago forgotten.
And just take a look at what the team has been going through to get to this point . . .

Listen, no matter what your political affiliations are, this is a story of the human spirit and its ability to overcome. These men, lead by a Brazilian coach no less, have found unity in a land mired in geographical, political, and cultural discord. That unity has transformed Shia and Sunni to IRAQIS, and that new, multicultural family is headed to the Asian Cup Final.
Even in the face of evil, these boys keep on trucking, and so do their fans. IRAQIS lined the streets, braving DEATH to celebrate their victory. Now that is fandom my friends.
Best of luck to you guys at Cinderellas last dance. And I do hope that this magic chariot ride doesn’t suddenly turn into a big old pumpkin.
Because this is what sport is all about.
