“Attacking Midfielder Not A Priority” . . . ?
By: Dave Martinez | March 28th, 2008
This is sure to bring a smile to the face of even the most seasoned Red Bulls fan :
“Attacking Midfielder is NOT a Priority”
Straight from the horses mouth. Just ask SBI.
Juan Carlos Osorio believes that the combination of Reyna and Magee will be more than capable of handling CAM duties. And I really hope he is right.
But the one thing that REALLY bothered me about the whole piece? Well, here it is:
The logic boils down to Osorio believing that if he can secure a tough, ball-winning defensive midfielder who can pass well, score a few goals and provide an effective link between the defense and the attack to play alongside Seth Stammler and behind Reyna, that Reyna or Magee will have the freedom to create and distribute effectively.
Sorry . . . but isn’t that the exact description of Dema Kovalenko? Makes you wonder if that cap space we are spending on two yet to be named’s is worth it.
YOUR TAKE:
Todays poll . . . Should CAM be a priority for the Red Bulls moving into the 2008 season. Let your voice be heard . . .

Shouldn’t that position be a priority for every squad???

Especially in a 3-5-2. But, what Osorio is saying is that Magee and Reyna are so competent, that signing a CAM is a moot point.
Some would disagree. others may be shocked (considering we thought THAT was a target all offseason).
Maybe Osorio saw something in Magee/Reyna that we didnt. After all, he is constantly there, he knows best.
We shall see.

Oh. I get it now. hehe…I just jumped on that immediately, being an attacking midfielder myself.

wow you really would kick my ass in soccer . . .
i am the specialized position of “Water Boy.” You prolly never heard of it. You need to be 6′2″ and 245lbs, and Argentine to do it.

Darn. You beat me in that. Not an ounce of Argentine blood in me, no matter how much I wish there was…

I liked Dema, but really he wasn’t much of a passer or any sort of an offensive threat at D-Mid. I still think we’re gonna end up with Marmol.

Im conflicted I guess.
Last year our defense was so bad that I guess a defensive midfielder should be a major priority and defenders are always my preference
however with the goal scorers we have and the leagues tendency towards making calls that favor offensive play and star power I think we really need to get someone who can provide chances - especially in counterattack but also via dead ball situations - for Angel and Joze.
These two guys need some help but with the right mix they could be seen as the most potent offense in the league.

Well I guess this is going to be solved now that they just got Venezuelan ATK Mid Jorge Rojas,
