Beckham, Argentina, and Exhaustion

By: Dave Martinez | March 3rd, 2009

Hey guys and gals,

I have to say, you are all getting me pretty amped for the coming MLS season. The comments, the dialogue; awesome stuff.

As for me, I have worked 22 of the last 36 hours, and am getting the rest of the day to . . . well . . . rest! Thats right; I am leaving work early. HURRAY!

Real quick though . . .

ESPN Radio in NYC was reporting on the Beckham deal. You all know it already, so I won’t insult your intelligence with repetition. The COOL part about what was reported was IF Becks decides to return, his anticipated first match would be against the Red Bulls at Giant Stadium.

Get your boo birds ready to fly.

Secondly, I am so happy about the Red Bulls success in Argentina. But before I get into that, a special message to the teams higher ups:

RED BULLS MANAGEMENT: The performance of the team and the quality of its opponents has made great PR for the team, whether they realize it or not. I am being bombarded with calls from family who live in remote parts of Argentina where roads haven’t quite met the technology of “pavement” yet. Matter of fact, they call them “smart highways” when they do pave them! Seriously.

Anyway, all I keep hearing about is the novelty of an American sports franchise (especially one from NEW YORK) faring well against Argie teams. Little initiatives like this raise the respect of this fledgling league, and in a place like Argentina, where everyone follows the latest trends, why not make MLS and in particular, the Bulls, that trend?

More of this is needed (travelling and success). Even if it is in dreaded Brazil next year (I apologize to my Brazilian readers. Falo!). It just puts RBNY out there, and able to show that the club can be competitive and respectable, even against the regions best.

Anyway, back to the topic. RB tied Argentino Jrs 1-1, featuring the Juniors first team squad. The Bulls held a lead most of the game till midway through the second. From what I understand, Jorge Rojas 30 yard direct kick goal was absolutely magnificent. Shame I haven’t seen it yet.

Either way, great job team!

Now, I am off! Going home, to a warm shower and an early sleep. Toodles y’all! And remember; you can always track me on Facebook and Twitter (daveredbulls).

Peash.

thanks for the report, dave. enjoy a well-deserved rest. i like the idea of brazil for next year's pre-season. there is red bull brazil in sao paulo, after all. the stiffer competition seems to inspire our team. let's go red bulls!
