By Way of Introduction

By: Martha | January 25th, 2007

Shep MessingYes, I’m the same Martha who writes the Serie A blog. And yes, I’m obsessed with Italian football. I do, however, also live in New York City, and after moving here about 18 months ago I found myself getting slowly sucked into the insane, often depressing world that is the NY Red Bulls. (Or, if you prefer, Red Bull NY. Freaking Germans.) Trust me, I tried to fight it. I really did — and yet I would find myself sitting on the couch, yelling at Edson Buddle to “SHOOT THE GODDAMN BALL!” Resistance was futile.

Plus, I mean, Shep Messing — AKA the accidental, bumbling, poor man’s Clyde Frazier of football — does color for the TV broadcasts. Need I say more?

I’m currently working on moving to the Meadowlands in order to avoid the clusterfuck of getting to games from Manhattan, but I’m not too hopeful about that working out. For those of you who know such things: If there’s a secret, easy way for the carless to get out there, please advise. I’ll even get a secret code tattooed on my neck, or take a vow of silence. Whatever it takes.

What a smart thing to do — put your intro in its own little compartment that everybody can look at later. I am so copying this idea.
