CLAUDIO REYNA RETIRES!
By: Dave Martinez | July 15th, 2008
I am in shock. Seriously. I mean, we all expected Reyna to pull a “Djorkaeff” and simply fade into the history books. This is something else all together.
I have to credit ESPN with this gem. Though Ives also says he was the first to report.
Reyna is gone folks. For reals.
So the question now remains - what of the DP? Well, depending on who you ask, the Bulls will either use the DP slot to address the gaping hole that is our forward lines, or MLS will not allow this to happen, instead sending the DP back to where it came from (Chivas). You can only imagine I am rooting for the former.
So, what are your thoughts? Is this a long time coming? And how to use that extra DP slot hmmm (I am sure Martha has a Colombian somewhere that may be worth a look)?
(working on a potential DP article already. I will have to leave my knee slapper Edson Buddle story till tommorrow)

Oh boy seeing him go is such sweet sorrow. Claudio we thank you for your wonderful career!! I think this was a very neccesary move in order for our bulls to get back on track. I’ll miss him though..

Shawn - your not the only one. I loved Reyna for years - but his play on the Bulls wasn’t the Reyna any of us expected. Besides a potential DP article, I am doing an analysis on Reyna (will take some time).

Cough Sputter Cough Cough. WHO SAID THAT?!?!?! Not gonna lie, I’d die of happiness if Chivas got their DP slot back but there is noooo way Garber is just gonna hand it back to them.

its about time he couldn’t even get with the times and untuck his jersey..looking like an alien out there on the field.

Mel - I actually have a pal in MLS who told me that is a 1% tiny possibility, but a possibility none the less. I didnt read it anywhere else, but I am with you - no way Garber lets that happen.

Dave, I’m a pretty big Chivas fan but if that seriously happened, it would truly be a sign this whole parity thing is really doing more harm to MLS than help.
And back to the topic at hand: This Is American Soccer sent out a twitter (I’m totally in love with twitter) wondering if Reyna can still be called Captain America. Of course he can! He’s just Captain Retired America. We still love him. Even better = we’ll still love him while saying hi to him in the stands or at at the charity thingamabobs.

Well all I can say is ‘good riddance’
hes done nothing for us at all and was a waste of that DP spot.
that said MLS owes us! We gave them the Altidore signing and they took away one of our players this summer and sent him to the fire so we are well due a bit of help.
besides dont they want their biggest market to get some skill?
give us the DP spot and then lets use it on a proper player!! Get me Rilqulme or Henry or someone with skills and draw!!! {hey, a boy can dream, right!}

Wow, as a matter of fact, Yesss I do! Thanks for the shout out…it is like Christmas in July! What is that expression…From your lips to JCO*s ear, Viva Colombia!!! You are eloquently and accurately on top of things, great work. p.s. I am very sad for Renya to go out like this, but it is a lession to all, either go hard or go home. The great ones need to manage their ending better, to go out in glory, ala ADP.

Didnt’ RBNY trade with Chivas for the DP slot? If that is the case, how would MLS have any leg to stand on in “handing” it back? Then again, MLS allowed some other un-thought of scenarios to go down in it’s brief history.

I just hope its not the case Rob. That would seriously create some issues. But it doesnt really make any sense to, so I hope its just hearsay and nothing solid.
NLR - I am rooting for Crespo or McBride
That would be sweet.btw Jon - hysterical. I have to correct that.
