Crystal Method Lays Out Red Bulls
By: Dave Martinez | July 1st, 2008
For the average Red Bulls supporter, a loss in a meaningless tournament to a bunch of unknowns would mean nothing at all. Who even knows who Lamar Hunt is anyway right? But to those who have lived through Metro disaster after disaster, a loss to a subpar USL2 franchise is yet another notch in our histories ever growing dissappointment belt.
Down early, 2 goals to best, and with a man advantage, the Red Bulls and their bench jockies could not make this game competitive, let alone hopeful. For those that are sick of the ongoing joke that is their trophy case, keep praying for an MLS Cup - Lamar Hunts trophy can once again get heaped onto the compost heap that is 12 years of Metro hopes and dreams.
The only rational explanation I can find for a 4-5-1 formation, bench warmers, and Zach Thornton against a bunch of minor league no names is that Osorio feels he has enough on his plate with the current season to take on a time consuming tournament. Why else bomb like this?
Your result?
Red Bulls 0 - 2 Crystal Palace (Baltimore)

thats all I can really imagine - that this was done with all intent of moving on with the real season. lets face it - three new potential signings on the way, and being well into the 2/3rd season mark, Osorio may have just prioritized and used the game for his bench players to get some action.

My opinion of JCO has gotten worse and worse all year. At this point, I am close to wanting him fired.

I went to college in Worcester MA…the “classy” strip club was Crystal Palace, so clearly that scoreline makes me giggle (but some days I think we’d lose to the strippers).
I understand that the LHUSOC (sweet ACRONYM!) is not a big time trophy but it does bring an auto bid to the CONCACAF-CL and isn’t that what we should be playing to get into? by any means necessary.

Matt - all I can come up with is Osorio wiefhs the MLS season above the cl.

As he should, but why not pick on the lowly US2 squads and take a shot at winning the cup, rather than the long drag through summer when who knows what will happen?

ugh - weights. I hate iPod touch sometimes.
btw - I am not making excuses for Osorio. With over 50+ travelling fans heading down to Baltimore to witness that debacle, plenty of people have a reason to be pissed. He could have taken the shot, but, pretty obviously, he holds no weight in that tournament. Shame.

Major Oooof…Lets just sweep that one under the rug, shall we?!

Absolutely pathetic performance, hands down. Why the hell are we playing one striker against a club three divisions below us?? Doesn’t Osorio realize that the Open Cup is also a path to the CONCACAF Champions League?

Did you have to cover that game? If you did, I am so sorry. To be there live would have been a punishment.
