Red Bulls 1 - 0 Carolina Railhawks

By: Dave Martinez | March 28th, 2008

Always nice to go into a season with a win.

I just watched the replay. For you guys. So I hope you appreciate it. ;)

First off, Claudio Reyna was the man of the match, hands down.

And he did it within a strange line up . . . check this out:

——-Altidore——-Echeverry—–

Borman——-Reyna———Sassano

———VDB——Ubiparipovic—–

Goldthwaite—–Parke——-Leitch

—————Conway————–

Reyna, within the first 25 minutes, had two blasts at goal that nearly went in, and that enthusiasm continued the rest of the game. He was involved in either every important build up, or as the finisher himself. Great game for any doubters out there - give him a shot.

Van Den Bergh put a BLAST up high for the only goal. The feed was from Parke with a header. And his play was also very controlling and strong.

Goldthwaite almost scored on his own team first half. But I cant pick on em - a good effort tonite all around from Goldie - especially in the second half. He was even excellent at times out there. I call it like I see it . . .

Sassano showed, on many occasions, that what he lacks in speed, especially in comparison with Dane Richards, he makes up for it in his crosses. Give and take I suppose.

And Echeverry looked so cold out there. His touch was weak, his aim was way off - It makes the case for a Francis Doe to have stayed on (at least he was clutch). May I even say that Chris Megaloudis (local Queens product) looked more dangerous at times than Ech had. Oscar needs to get acclimated and fast - the MLS season tends to sneak up on ya and leave just the same.

By the way . . . Mega . . . I am rooting for ya pal.

This is a nice warm up for a long season, and a good confidence booster as well.

Lets hope the results carry.

Poor guy…still getting comments on the launch of the ‘offside cup’ but can’t get his own fans to comment on their first(ish) game? I’ll help you out…just don’t expect this as much come Monday, spring break ends and I’m back to work work work :P

Anyway my only comments on this are: good job Reyna, but is there anyone else on the squad really worth recognizing?? Also: scoreline = pathetic, work on finishing…

Hahaha thanks Catherine - this has to be the slowest post of the past month! It has to be either Offside Cup or Kpene . . . I know my readers!

1-0 is hardly a massive achievement, but its a good start. As long as SOME winning happens soon, I will be happy.

true I’d be happy with a win no matter the scoreline. I mean I’m blissful about Arsenal’s win and they played horribly today. lol.

ugh dont get me started with Fulham. They totally killed my mood.

EJ has to learn to step forward. Putting his finish (which is actually quite good when he is on) with Kamaras play would make a pretty good forward.

    UGH.

    We are getting relegated.

BTW - Here is my MLS Fantasy lineup (since you shared)

    Jon Busch Goalkeeper

    Bryan Namoff Defender
    Tyson Wahl Defender
    Frankie Hejduk Defender

    Guillermo Barros Schelotto Midfielde
    Cuauhtemoc Blanco Midfield ©
    David Beckham Midfielde
    Marcelo Gallardo Midfielder

    Tomasz Frankowski Forward
    Ivan Trujillo Forward
    Ante Razov Forwar

    Denis Hamlett Coach

    Bench:
    Fabian Espindola Forward
    Raphael Wicky Midfielder
    Jeff Parke Defender

my goodness…my butt is getting a serious kickin in this fantasy league…hehehe. your midfield cracks me up.

about Fulham though, I didn’t watch the game, I just know it’s 2-2 with Derby thanks to uk.eurosport.com (best site ever). the only thing I can say about that is hey at least you drowned Derby with that. I’m looking forward to Barcelona today though because Arsenal’s chances have pretty much tanked.

But thank you so much. Here is my attempt at repaying you. Next time Colorado beat LA 4-0, make sure Bouna Coundoul is your captain.
