El Angel Del Gol – Metro All Time Scoring Leader
By: Dave Martinez | September 28th, 2009
It was a crazy night at the Home Depot Center this past Saturday. Chivas USA facing the Red Bulls didn’t quite have the sizzle fans would want out of their Game of the Week coming into it, but some matches hold surprises of their own.
Though anemic in the first half, the Bulls were able to rally from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game on an amazing header from El Angel Del Gol, The Cherubic Assasin, Juan Pablo Angel. That marked his 10th goal of the season and the 46th of his MLS career, securing the number one spot on the Metro Bulls all time scoring list. Check out the game highlights:
I think Sinisa deserves a bottle of the finest Bosnian wine for his efforts, don’t you?
Anyhow, congratulations to Juan Pablo Angel for achieving Tri-State infamy as the teams all time leading scorer. He now joins the RBNY “Mount Rushmore” of goal scoring, sharing the spotlight with Metro greats like Clint Mathis and Giovanni Savarese.
It is a nice ribbon to cap off an already stellar Red Bulls career, which has included 3 seasons as the teams leading scorer, MVP caliber performances, willing the team through a rough 2008 season into the MLS Cup Finals, and most recently, recording 10 goals in a season where his team has been as inept as the standings suggest.
That is a leader. That is Juan Pablo Angel.

. . . . and before someone else says it, YES, I KNOW Mt. Rushmore has more heads than that . . . which will lead me to a future poll question . . . but that is another topic for another day.

It was a gorgeous, textbook header that made me feel proud.

The only problem was that it didn’t happen at home. I really wanted to be there when it happened. Everyone needs to give him a HUGe standing ovation the last game of the season.

Congrats to JPA! Btw, during the broadcast Saturday night one of the commentators (not sure of the FSC guys’ names) mentioned that with the possible salary cap increase to $4M+ that we may be looking to fill both DP spots in the offseason, where they implying that we would fit JPA under the main roster? I think they said that there is a possibility that the DPs would NOT count against the cap number at all. If this is true it would be a great boost in adding depth and talent to this league.

thats exciting info there Rob,
This league needs more cash in it so we can begin the proper transition from old European guys looking for a paycheck to alternate league option.
Id love to see us keep JPA and add a pair of legit footballers. One in the midfield and one in the defense

Curse of J. Altidore
Can it be true, the Haitan/American performs voodoo on his former clubs. He leaves NY Red Bulls and they finish in last place this year. He leaves Villareal, and they are bottom of the table in La Liga. Is Hull City next?
