Eric Brunner, Welcome to the Red Bulls
By: Dave Martinez | January 18th, 2008
Let me introduce you all to Mr. Eric Brunner!
Osorio’s reign begins with the big question mark many RBNY fans have had on their minds - who will solidify the backlines?
Well, low and behold, we draft a central defender of immense size (6′4″, but a rather measly 165lbs.) to cover our . . . behinds.
Here is his Buckeyes Bio.
His Coach said the following about Mr. Brenner :
Coach Bluem on Brunner: “Eric is an outstanding athlete. He is incredible in the air and is fast, smart and organizes well in the central defense. He handled being a sweeper or a stopper last year after playing left back as a sophomore. He is naturally right-footed but can strike with his left foot, too. Eric is the whole package. His positioning and senses are excellent and he is the cornerstone of our defensive unit.”
And a few more tidbits . . . .

Though I heard NOTHING of the kid before the draft, he seems like a solid pick up. We will have trees like Parke and Brunner in the middle, if the kid can unseat Mendes or Stammler that is. He did receive many accolades his Sophmore year as a left back. So that may answer that particular question mark.
Anyhow, this is the info I could dig up. A prudent pick by Osorio and his staff.

Eric is a powerfull defensive player. He can use both feet equally. Against Bailey he scored twice and deflated the soccer ball. Now that is power. He has long and short passing skills and wins over 90% of his headers. He also helped with 15 shutouts this with OSU. He also received the MVP award from the combine and score with his left foot from 30 yards out. I think he will do just fine in New York.
