Fate Uncertain, Richie Williams Entertains Fire Position
By: Dave Martinez | December 11th, 2009
Erik Soler has not tipped his hand on Richie Williams future with the organization. Perhaps that is why Williams is scheduled to interview with the Chicago Fire, as reported on the Washington Post blog.
Somewhere in Colombia, Juan Carlos Osorio is smiling.
For those that have forgotten, the Red Bulls snatched Coach Osorio from the jaws of an extended contract with the Chicago Fire. At the time, he managed to turn around a distressed club into a playoff contender. The Red Bulls saw this, and figured lightning would strike twice. This caused a major rift between both organizations, making the teams match ups must watch affairs, especially during his first season.
A trip to the MLS Cup, coupled with 12 wins, 27 losses and 13 ties later, and they may have started to see things a tad differently.
Now, with the Red Bulls dithering on their search for a manager, or perhaps settling on an overseas option in Tony Adams, the Fire have taken on the aggresors role in their pursuit of the diminutive interim coach. The last time a team showed interest in Williams, it was DC United knocking, and the Red Bulls playing spectator, awaiting the results.
Something tells me that this Fire interview won’t get them moving any faster in their search either.
The season is 106 days away.
