FRANCESCO COCO (The Revs v. RBNY)
By: Dave Martinez | September 6th, 2007So look which coke sniffing party boy has surfaced in the Red Bulls rumor mill (not Tom Arnold, he just came to see the Galaxy!)

FRANCESCO COCO is BACK in RBNY news.
As I first heard from GIANFRANCO @ the AC MILAN blog, and as originally reported by none other than the NY Post, Mr. Coco may get a leave from Inter to join our growing league. AND THAT is according to the one and only IVES!
Now thats what I call giving credit where its due!
His suitors are 2 teams that are looking to solidify their back lines for the playoff push – mortal enemies NEW ENGLAND and NEW YORK.
Let the games begin . . . .
RBNY are KOOKOO for COCO
I havent been a big fan of the Parke / Stammler tandem in our middle. I love Mendes, his style of play, steadyness, and forthright nature (like when he spoke after the game on the own goal). So, to me, a Mendes / Parke tandem down our middle would seem right.
But we do need depth. And if either man were to take the bench for Coco, we would be that much stronger instantly.
Mendes, Parke, Stammler (maybe) and Coco down the middle . . . . instant solidification of our lines. Instant rest for all three as they compete in the playoff push. Instant success.
That would give us the following people AVAILABLE to play defensive wing backs – Stammler (maybe), DVB, Leitch, Goldthwaite and Freeman.
Again, pretty solid.
And lets not take for granted the promise we saw from our Walrus. With him and Conway manning the backlines, plus the addition of CoCo, and all our defensive options, we suddenly become a post season playoff bound juggernaut. no joke.
THIS IS THE RIGHT MOVE
I have contended for some time that soccer starts with the defense. I am telling you, there is NO midfield if the defense is a shell of itself. And thats a fact. A steady back line will give midfielders and forwards the liberty to push up, pass back, and be comfortable with the creativity necessary to win.
Coco, much like Abel Xavier has done with LA, can help us string together this mess into a tightly knit structure. We are missing that veteran presence with our defense, so much so that Reyna (on his good days) seems to be the backline leader. Coco, though a wreckless party animal (or so we are told), can teach our boys much in the way Angel has taught Alti, the tricks of the trade.
One signing MAY have the effect of creating fluidity in our attack, and solidifying our backlines. And that is no over statement.
AND THEN THERE WERE THE FRIGGIN REVS . . . .
You have a MNT centerback.
You have Riley and Heaps.
You have Avery.
AND YOU HAVE MATT REIS!

WHY must you C BLOCK our TEAM?!?!?
There is no need for New England to spend cash on Coco. Other than adding MORE depth to their lines.
And dont they play a 3-5-2? Wont that mean Parkhurst would have to take a seat?
Its a C-Block folks.
Luckily, Mr. Kraft has alligator arms and will never reach for his pocketbook for a Cokehead Defensemen (even though that description would befit most New Englanders).
Its our for the taking. If Coco is serious about MLS, I would be very surprised if he went to New England. I know they are in first, but still . . . . it would be a shocker to this blogger, thats for sure . . . .
LETS GO GET EM!
And then, we can go after Robbie Fowler and Maradona for the Cokehead Hat Trick!

Coco isn’t a central defender though and can’t play center defense at all. He’s a left back that likes to get forward.

I should mention that he has lost a step. And is a big boy (compared to our boys, he is 6ft tall, and a presence).
He was supposed to be the future Left Back for Italy, which I understand, but that was before the injury and a definite loss of his step. he has no playing time what so ever. He hasnt had an assist in a game in ages . . . and he wasnt signed on by Euro clubs because he just was not fit enough.
That being said, I feel that Central D, regardless of his past, is where the Bulls will be looking to use em. He would make an excellent distributor – especially if, god forbids, Walrus falls back in form and we have conway back in nets.
Think about the now, not what was.
Either way, good point Francesco.

Well I understand, and I guess now that he’s getting older he doesn’t have the fitness to run up and down the flank anymore like he used to. But I still think he would have to take time to get adjusted to playing in the center.

I remember a day long ago, when said Coco was compared to Paolo Maldini…granted he snorted that all away, but I bet Bruce can ween out some talent. I love when Serie A stars come to NY its just natural.

Yes : Coco isn’t anthing like Maldini.
Coco should be called “Co-coke”.
He’s out of form, has recurring injuries, bad temper, doesn’t like playing anywhere but left back, and his technique is a lot worse than when he was a teen and seen as a hot prospect.

COKE-O Would sound better
And if that issue at left back is true, and his ego (and that amazing girlfriend) get in the way, then I may change my tune some . . . .

He also recently started a chain of clothes shops. Since he’s in control of them with his father, he probably spends time there too.
