Gretna Collapse = Our Gain?
By: Dave Martinez | March 31st, 2008
Captain Chris Innes of Scottish side Gretna FC is a man without club.
So are 22 others. Including players, coaching staff – even the ex owners son. And to make matters worse, they lost their relegation battle. When it rains, it pours . . .
What does this have to do with us? Well, if you were watching Fox Soccer Channel, they reported that the Red Bulls, among others, are interested in the 31 year olds services. Interesting. My question’s where will we find room in our crowded roster? Oh well.
Season Preview coming this Wednesday folks . . .

I think that the league already has picked up Kenny “Dr. Goal” Deucher (RSL) and Caig (back up keeper Houston) from the implosion. Must be some agent in those parts with MLS contacts.

Innes is an interesting signing for the MLS, but he’s certainly not the best of the Gretna castoffs, despite the captaincy. Personally, I’d go with Henry Makinwa to MLS, but RBNY don’t need a striker.

Innes will be a fantastic signing. As for the person who actually regards Makinwa to be a pro footballer needs to learn the game. I am a Dundee United fan in the UK and Chris Innes is a true leader and one of the most composed defenders. It was the arabs fortune to have had him. He was always better than Gretna but he will cruise the MLS!!!!! Good luck Chris!

I agree, as a St Mirren punter I rate Innes as a solid defender. All the best big man!!!

Henry Makinwa is useless. I am a gretna fan ttend every game and he is no good. So much so the manager shouted to him exactly what he thought of him. Chris would be a good defender.

Yea Ian, I am takin all the European advice on this one . . . Makinwa stinks and Innes would be great!

Well, that’s that then. The main feature I remember from the few Gretna matches I’ve seen this season was the incredibly leaky defense, including Innes. But I certainly yield to the Gretna fans. I hope he works out for you.

Well . . . if we sign em brother. I am hoping we get it done soon.
Thats that is hysterical. I always find it funny that the most obscure players bring about the most response.

Chris Innes is a great defender and I agree he will cruise the MLS. He made some rubbish defenders at Gretna look good as he lead them. He deserves more credit. Funny how when he wasn’t playing Gretna struggled, prime example is now since he is not there!! NYRB are getting a class defender!
