HEY EVERYONE! DID I MISS ANYTHING?!
By: Dave Martinez | November 10th, 2007Well, leave it up to me to leave during the most tumultuous week in the Red Bulls 2007 season!
Lets start from the start shall we ?
RED BULLS LOSE TO THE REVOLUTION
I missed the game. Ill admit to that. Disney doesnt have any interest in playing RBNY games I suppose.
But, from what Ive read from my favorite sources, we didnt look great or horrible out there. A very mediocre performance.
And of course, the vultures of Major League Soccer, the Revolosers, once again turned on the engines at the right time, as JPA went down with a concussion. They victimized us much like they victimized the Fire last night (which Jet Blue helped me watch!). They have it down to a science.
Once again, after a season full of promise, it was a one and done series.
BRUCE ARENA “resigns”
In Europe, football teams take no guff. We have European ownership. Look at what happens.
Though, as Eric Wynalda pointed out, Red Bull didnt have the “patience” to run with Arenas plan, I still think this may have been the right move.
We have the highest payroll. We have talented players capable of making a run. And yet, we made the early exit, much like last year.
The rumor mill is going strong, as Metro fans are calling for their favorite coaches to be hired. Harkes? Agoos? Ray Hudson? Mourinho? Capello? Hell, someone even mentioned SHEP MESSING.
At least we have speculation to look forward to.
INSURRECTION
Who would have thought?
ARENA v. REYNA
Not me. But that is what Dyer is reporting. There was major insurrection going down in our locker room, to the point where only 4 players (Mathis, Angel, Conway, DVB) decided to speak to the media for the very last of the teams media days. All saying positive things about Arena of course. But what did the other fellas think?
Mom always said if you have nothing nice to say, dont say a word. Ill take the silence to mean exactly that.
=================================================
So the mess continues for our favorite cursed franchise.
And we have an offseason to take time and rebuild. Again.
BTW, if you were wondering, I am rooting for the Dynamo to win it all. I hate the Revs.
More updates to come. And Im glad to be back!

I always thought this season NY had the best collection of individual players yet couldn’t seem to get it off the ground. Maybey its because Arena was constantly changing the line-ups? A friend of mine is convinced Arena started going mad after the last World Cup. I think getting a new coach is only going to be good for NY and its either going to be some established Euro guy (perhaps not as flashy as that dude La got) or your boy Harkes. I think cause Preki’s promotion wound up being pretty successful for the goats, NY may be more inclined to give it a shot.
Good luck, and I hope Altidore sticks it out in MLS at least one more year and maybey we give Reyna another year too? Lets all not start screaming for him to retire now. These are all my extremely subjective opinions, of course.

First off, congrats on being the SJ writer. Its gonna be good I am sure.
And I agree with you. Going down the line, RBNY had a very good lineup, especially when compared to the rest of the league. And yes, maybe it was the constant lineup changes, or the injuries. Who knows.
I think it will wind up being Harkes. I remember speaking to Alti and he credited Harkes for his improved play this year. That speaks volumes.
If not him, THEN a Euro coach.
Gotta give Lexi credit for finding a quick and excellent replacement. I mean, he has alot of haters, but he did the right thing at the right time.
You guys have Yallop pretty much in the bag. Im willing to bet 2 left socks that Jon Conway is heading your way.

Yeah, I think quite a few players will want to go back to SJ and back to The Frank in the coming months. It gives me a small sense of hope that we won’t end 2008 at the bottom of the (single) table. Even if we do, it’ll give Toronto something to be happy about and LA can spend a short while gloating.
I hope Harkes gets promoted. More US talent gets a shot and all that.
