How Do You Spell Undefeated? R-B-N-Y, Baby!

By: Martha | February 15th, 2007

Falling ToddThe all-powerful Red Bulls continued their total domination of the entire soccer world yesterday with a 2-1 victory over the much-loved DC United.

If I was being impartial and fair, I would point out that DC’s goal came against our starters, and that one of our goals happened because their keeper dropped the ball. But since I’m a terribly unfair, biased person, I will do no such thing, and will instead only mention that we scored twice (Jozy in the 53rd, and trialist Ansu Toure in the 62nd) against DC’s first team, and that they have been in camp longer the us and they still lost. Neener neener.

Anti-DC ranting aside, reports from people who were at the game make it sounds like the first half was pretty even, with the Red Bulls blowing a few chances. In addition, Floridians tell us: Wynne’s crossing is better (Hallelujah!), Reyna is still “flawless,” and Dane Richards is awesome, with a lot more than his blazing speed to offer. The full Red Bull lineups for the game are after the jump but, as usual, the first half was played by the presumed first team (sans Jozy, who is reportedly lazy, injured or both), while the second featured primarily trialists and rookies and whatnot.

The victory tour rolls into Orlando on Friday, where RBNY will face Houston at 6pm.

Nice post; I’ll be linking to it shortly.

But I’m more concerned with filling in an unknown: who is Ansu Toure and where did he come from? The name doesn’t ring a bell beyond recalling Kolo Toure to mind.

Hey Jeff, thanks for stopping by (and I just added your feed to my reader!).

Toure is a trialist who, sadly, is not related to Kolo. He’s from Liberia and is currently on the books with a USL side, maybe Minnesota. A left-sided striker, according to Big Apple Soccer.

Leave it to a bunch of Red Bull NYers to get excited over a pre-season scrimage. DC United treated it as just a warm up/shake out to see who will be going to Honduras to play in CONCACAF.

You know, that tournament you’ve never been in….
