Interview: Roy Miller

millerLadies and gentlemen, there are advantages to being bilingual. Especially when you are in a room full of mainly english speaking reporters and one of the hottest (and first!) transfers to the team is sitting around, waiting for some questioning. And it would be only fitting, since I was able to break the news first here in the states, that I be the guy to do the questioning, don’tcha think?

Anyway, I had a chance to speak to Costa Rican National Roy Miller about his time with the Bulls thus far, and his impressions on the American game.

Enjoy:

DM: Share your first impressions on what you have seen this preseason with the Red Bulls.

RM: No, things are great. You notice an atmosphere that is very good, and very positive. With the new stadium, new management, new players, I feel that it is a good start to this new season, forgetting what has happened in the past. The team is very happy with the work that has been done with the new coaches and players. I think that is always good for a team, to continue with a good vibe, and positive thinking. And we hope to start off well, continue at the pace we are going and take advantage of the rest.

DM: How did you find yourself in New York? Close ties to Erik Soler?

RM: Well, when I played in Norway, he had a position as a television personality. It was the only way I could ever see him, but I never had any contact with him. I came here like any other new player, with new ideas, and that is all the interaction I had with him before coming here.

DM: Where will you find your niche on the team?

RM: The last few games in the preseason, I have played the left wing back position, but I have been used as a stopper or a center back in the past. But I play most comfortably on the left, I think I play it well, but I like it, I feel good, and I like how this has been working out.

DM: What is the difference in style you have noticed between Norway and the US game?

RM: The truth is, not much. Sure, in Norway, football is more intense. Tactically they are very good , but I feel here we also have very good technique, they work the physical game well, are very professional and I feel the differences aren’t that big.
