IRAQ ASIAN CUP CHAMPIONS! CONFED CUP, HERE THEY COME!
By: Dave Martinez | July 30th, 2007
Again, this is what Sport is all about.
Instead of withstanding having their limbs cut off for missing a goal, or being punished by kicking a concrete ball, the Iraqi national team, for the first time in its history, has won the Asian Cup Final. And this time, they weren’t “inspired” by the Torture of Saddams Son, but by the UNITY and INSPIRATION they have enabled their people to feel, after what seems like an eternity of pain and suffering.
Republicans, Democrats, put down your swords, at least for now.
If you are Republican, dont let quotes like the ones made by the Iraqi Captain bother you:

“I want America to go out,” Younes Mahmoud said. “Today, tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, but out. I wish the American people didn’t invade Iraq and hopefully it will be over soon.”
THIS is the freedom we WANT them to have. Dont hate! If your house was occupied, youde be mad too!
If you are a Democrat, please do not wrap the all consuming IRAQ IS DOOMED message on this one. Let the Iraqis breathe easy, at least for one day, and enjoy this win. After all, the people who have been killed THIS time around have been for the stray celebration bullets they themselves let off. And that message cuts off any good that can be produced in this land of chaos.
For one day, maybe one week, let EVERYONE rejoice in this victory.
Hell, Not only are Iraq the Asian Cup Champions, they are also heading to the Confederations Cup, to play against the likes of South Africa, Brazil . . . and the United States!!! Can you imagine? COULD you have imagined that?
There is alot to celebrate in this Historic Turning point for the Iraqi People. Kurds, Sunnis, Shia, all celebrating together? Who would have seen that coming? But they rejoice now, as champions, unified, under one banner.
Through mortars and land mines, tanks and rifles, Iraq has found its refuge in soccer . . . together, as one.
You couldnt have asked for a better ending.

Again, this just rocks. And it’s in no way a middle finger to Bush’s face (although I wish it were- Bushie’s probably going to say they won because he liberated them), but just happiness all around.

It was because of OIF and OEF that the Iraqis are allowed freedom of speech (even to engage in BDS) without the fear of Saddam’s brother who tortured the players after poor performances.
And I would be careful of the “occupy” tag in that we didn’t invade Iraq to slaughter citizens, bomb cities and wage war on an entire nation as the Soviet Union and Germany did to Poland back in 1939.

Mr Heston (love the name), I agree. There is a vast difference in the policies of our nations foreign affairs and that of the old USSR and Germany.
I retract the occupation word. You are completely right. The word congers images of that old guard and quite frankly, I wouldnt want it associated with the US.
But we are there. And the way they see it, is that we are, for lack of a better term, “Occupying” their space. Didnt mean malace by it, but it is definitely the wrong wording.
DAMN YOU!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!!!
I love Chuck Heston . . .

Remember back in the ‘04 Olympics, just over a year after our invasion and a few months after we captured Saddam, when the Iraqi football team had their first “shock and awe” performance? The Bush team immediately started airing ads using the Iraqi’s games, saying something along the lines of “This year, another new democracy is competing for national pride. Congratulations Iraq from the US Military.”
And the Iraqi team immediately asked them to stop airing the ads, because they didn’t approve of the use of their images and didn’t want to support the invasion of their country.Posted from

Thats why you are hearing nothing now. Same deal. But the point of the article was simply to say lets but all BS aside and rejoice for them, screw the politics.
Can you believe Chuck Heston is a red bulls fan?!
