Its Gabriel Cichero, Not Innes

By: Dave Martinez | July 1st, 2008

Like a dope, I thought Osorio was thinking of trying out Chris Innes again for that left back spot. I definitely ruled out the one time trialist Gabriel Cichero, Venezuelan National, especially after the organization deemed him to be too expensive.

Slow down, says La Vinotinto.

According to Cichero himself, the Red Bulls and his current club Italia will be making an announcement come this Wednesday about a loan agreement. He said that is all he knows.

The article also mentions how Cichero has been heavily pursued by Colombian clubs, but the fact that Osorio has actually gone to see him and speak with him, pursuing him persistantly in the middle of a season flattered the young defender. Remember all the talk we heard of Osorio’s recruiting skills and connections? With Rojas, and possibly Cichero in tow, we are starting to see that magic at work.

So it looks like Red Bulls will be ready to make the second of their expected three moves - and the forward spot is all that remains.

What do you think about the rumored inclusion of Cichero? Will it be enough?

I have no idea about all these South American club guys, but I can think they bring a lot to the table:
1- they might put asses in the seats (I don’t know how many Italia fans are in the NJ/NY area)
2- We need a shot of life, and guys with proven club histories is a nice way of doing that.

NLR - defender al the way. He is a venezuelan national and has played In Colombia uruguay and other places.

As to matts point - I dont know of any veneUelan upswell in nj or ny so putting butts in the seats that way is questionable. But they will bring people in to make the team better and that will hopefully get some interest going.

Chichero is a central defender, and overall a better player than Jorge Rojas (I’m Venezuelan, and have seen this guys play a lot). Good signing

Lol on a side note. that picture you have is of his brother, Alejandro Cichero, who plays for Shandong Luneng in China.

I’m Venezuelan as well and saw him play a few times. Think of him as another Hunter Freeman but on the left side. Same style.

Actually its Argentine *you oughta be happy* Juan Pietravallo, def mid/ def! Not sure if Cichero, def, is of Italian Slavic decent, but he will be adequate, good or great, as he has played in 2 S.A. countries /2 European. He plays for Deportivo Italia, which is in Venezuela founded 1948 by Italian immigrants, and played in U.S. Lecce of Italy Serie A/B. Thats Unione Sportiva, not USA! Confusing names, but hey we play Cristal Palace today! Bring DelPiero for me and 10,000 extra Italian fans, lol

According to Big Apple Soccer site, its Rojas and an argentine player, named Pietravallo, whom played in Argentina and 2nd division Spain, to sign 1st on Wed…then the other Venezuelan, Cichero to follow, pending his loan. I was giving the googled info, sorry if tmi! My point was to the Italia comment, bringing more people in seats. If you want *mi paesan/ mi gente* you need to sign Del Piero for an extra 10,000 to 40,000 fans! Just dreaming! p.s. Oooff Up a man for almost 60 min. and we lose!

double p.s. These 3 players are great, wtg JCO, in whom I have great faith…however, as 3rd lowest goals scored in MLS, we need a forward…I know a great one!

The picture on this article is of the brother of Gabriel Cichero , the picture you have there is of Alejandro Cichero.

Gabriel is younger , yet his brother is the undesputed best defense Venezuela has.
