5pm - GAME OVER - CHARLESTON 1 - RED BULLS 1
Overview: A good overall game. Reyna, Parke, Borman, Ubi, Megaloudis, Magee and Angel looked good out there. Others like Goldthwaite and Mendes did not. But its still preseason, so its not as bad as you would think.
No need to get panties all up in a bunch is what i am sayin . . .
I cant wait for the season to start folks. Enjoy the recap.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
4:59 - THORNTON HAD TO MAKE A DIVING SAVE TO THE LEFT! Goldthwaite gets destroyed by their striker, and the shot was impressive and on point! Good job by our big man, bad job by our D.
4:57 - Megaloudis finds Ubi, who shoots it and its deflected. Corner. Ubi with a low cross that doesnt make the box. Battery batter it away.
4:55 - The D looks tired. A Stammler no look pass nearly cost us.
4:51 - Mendes with a HORRIFIC pass into the middle of the field. Just had to point it out cuz it was THAT bad.
4:50 - That goal deflated us. Charleston is on the attack. Hard.
4:48 - 1-1Battery answer back with a goal that kills Zach. Weak.
4:47 - 1-0UBIPARAPOVIC WITH A BEAUTIFUL SET PIECE CROSS TO THE RIGHT CORNER, AND FINDS MASAR WITH THE HEADER!!!!
4:44 - Zach Thornton looks HUGE. Like FAT and MUSCULAR HUGE. They just focused in on him. He hasnt seen much action.
4:40 - Schramm in for Magee. Moments ago, Megaloudis just juked their defense and hit a pass to the middle to no one. The kid is doing gretat.
4:37 - MEGA (#26) HITS IT IN AND A GOAL IS DISALLOWED! OFFSIDE! NOOO!!!!
4:35 - I used to play tag, soccer - you name it - with Chris Megaloudis brother - and there he is in the game! Good luck buddy!
4:32 - On the Charleston side - former RSL D Jack Stewart having a GREAT game. As are King and Richardson.
4:29 - Angel and Reyna are out - Wolyniec and Masar (? I believe)
4:27 - Ubi looks like Dane early last year - pretty moves, open spaces, and 0 crossing ability.
4:24 - Ok. Goldthwaite was holding the ball on the edge of the box, when he could have slammed it upfield. Instead, he holds, gets it kicked off of him - and a corner. The corner leads to nothing, but still.
4:22 - King burns Mendes and gets RIGHT AT Conway with a shot to his chest, corner kick. Spicer nearly takes a point blank shot, and Parke turns it out for a throw.
4:18 - STAMMLER with a GORGEOUS chipper to Magee on the far left of the post, and he rolls it out on the right hand side. Bad finish, but good seeing Magee active.
4:17 - WHAT A SHOT BY ANGEL FROM 25! A LAZER gets turned away! Battery on the counter, and King breaks Mendes again, sends a cross to no one - threat averted.
4:15: - Just announced Zach Thornton in for Jon Conway. Ubiparapovic for Sassano. 3 corners headed his way were headed out - the last one was caught by Zach and distributed.
4:13 - we are BACK. 2nd half underway.
HALFTIME: Overall, I am loving the 3-5-2. The guys look good, fit, and ready. A promising glimpse into the season so far. Individually . . . .
Reyna looks GREAT. His passes are on point, and he seems more fluid in this formation. Last years 442 must have really bothered him.
Magee needs more touches to make some magic happen.
Angel is Angel - only a matter of time before he buries one him.
Etchevarry has been on and off. The final minutes highlighted Etchevarry with the ball in the box and time . . . an ill advised pass to Angel in the middle gets cleared away. I need to see more of him before opinions can truly be formed.
Sassano and Mendes are being victimized on the right by Richardson and company. Stammler has had to make a couple of saves for them already. Meanwhile, the left has looked great.
And standout of the half has to be Borman. He has had a couple of excellent crosses that must have Angels mouth watering. And his composure is top notch - there is no rushing to make a play happen - he simply looks for the smartest play - and that is tremendous for a young player.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
3:57 - A GREAT cross to a far right post header, blocked by the Battery . . . and we have intermission!
3:55 - Angel feeds Etchevarry who BURNS the defense and is BOUGHT DOWN! Goal kick from 15 out . . . Angel on the ball . . . blocked by the wall, yellow to the wall thought there was a handball in the box and NO PK Call. Second shot was a chippy that went over the bar. Sucks.
3:51 - REYNA TO ANGEL . . . OFFSIDE !!! Reyna looks GREAT!
3:48 - Etchevarry and Stewart push and shove after a dumb foul by the Battery. Reyna and Borman line behind the set piece . . . BORMAN TO MAGEE, HEADER OFF THE WOODWORK! I am loving Borman and Magee!
3:46 - Mendes gets burned by Richardson again, and no finish equals no harm done. But Mendes not looking too sharp.
3:45 - REYNA TO MAGEE TO SASSANO . . . and his cross is blocked for a corner. GIVE MAGEE MORE TOUCHES!!! Borman with a great corner, knocked out. Corner 2 - Reyna - nothing. But Reyna gives the ball chase, and eventually, chases it out of bound.
3:43 - Some guy King gets in the middle scot free as Mendes and Parke watch on. Luckily the kids got no finish.
3:42 - Nothing happening on the right - for all the talk of Sassano, Borman is looking better. Magee NEEDS more touches, as he sends one to the middle and no one home (not his fault)
3:39 - Shot a bit off target from 25 out for the Battery, Goal Kick.
3:38 - Though I am a big fan of Mendes, I feel that the Battery are targeting him as the teams weakness,.
3:36 - a bunch of midfield nothingness. Reyna and Stammler make a good tandem in the CDM’s. Reyna especially seems more fluid and comfortable.
3:32 - Spoke to soon - Mendes loses his marker, clear shot at Conway is blocked - corner is sent out by JPA for a battery throw.
3:31 - If soccer was about attacking and getting nowhere, then Charleston would be Kings of the World.
3:29 - GORGEOUS Cross from Borman, which reaches the head of JPA, only to sail over the bar - VERY promising!
3:27 - Battery Corner Kick - Conway punches it away into the head of Parke, which falls to another corner - corner followed was quick and a miss - RBNY looks vulnerable . . . they clear the third corner tp midfield and out.
3:22 - Bulls on the attack, Ecthevarry creates room, 5 Bulls in the box, and Borman lets up an ugly cross into nothingness to kill the attack
3:21 - Battery misses a corner. No big woop. Bulls look calm and collected in the back - a welcome sign.
3:19 - Stammler steals the ball, feeds Magee, who feeds Angel - Angel jukes the defense and loses the ball - attack dies.
3:17 - Light attack by the Battery, but Parke stuffs their forward advancement. Parke looks like the clear leader of the back three. No shots.
3:14 - Etchevarry hits one wide. We are controlling tempo - Charleston looks for openings wherever they can.
3:13 - Reyna with a nice half field lob to Sassano, which barely misses, and goes out for a goal kick.
3:12 - game is about 2-3 minutes old, Parke gets hit hard, gets back up.
3:09 - Anthems are done with. And they are highlighting solar panels. Hippies.
3:02 - The announcer called it “The Battery Battle Field.” Ugh.
3:01 - An Empty Field. And some annoying club music. The wait is on. And I will hit the little boys room while we wait . . .
