With the new Stadium built walking distance from an area of Newark known for it’s large Portuguese and Brazilian presence, Figo would be very high on a list of aging superstars that would draw by his name alone. I would be very excited for this legendary player to come and hopefully make an impact in MLS.

While it would be awesome to have him play in New York and I think he would do well (just like Blanco is old and doing well in Chicago) I think RBNY should focus on the long term plan and give their academy players a chance. With Angel and Celades on the roster RBNY has a great opportunity to speed up the improvement of their talents. You can already see how that would work with Kandji and Angel.

While he is obviously over the hill and a shadow of his former self, he would be a great fit for the team for at least one season in a CAM role. That would allow Celades to play in his natural CDM role. The only question would be, where do you play Stammler? I think that he can be an excellent CB.
