Macedonian Keeper Oka Nikolov Linked To Red Bull

okaMove over, Estonia. Your pals in the south are on our radar now!

Veteran Macedonian keeper Oka Nikolov has been linked to Red Bull, according to reports out of Germany (faz.net – originally found by ASN). The Eintracht Frankfurt lifer has rejected their recent contract extension, and may be looking at the US as a viable option as soon as the summer transfer window.

“Mr. Nikolov has informed us that he will not accept the offer to extend his contract by two years and that he wants to go to the U.S.,” executive chairman Heribert Bruchhagen told IVZOnline.

This comes just days after Erik Soler categorically denied any link to the 35 year old keeper.

Of course, this could all be a clever negotiation ploy by the Macedonian to get more money from the team he has spent a lifetime with, but that is sheer guesswork at this point.

Now, let’s just say that the rumors are true – then what? Bouna Coundoul caries a hefty salary and Danny Cepero carried the team to the MLS Final in 2008. Would the Bulls be interested in such a gamble and experiment with one of the few positions that seemed stable enough to carry into the 2010 season?

Hit us up, and drop your opinion after the jump.

You know they say about too many keepers in the kitchen....

Smells like agent horses**t to me. However, as we seem to be trialing keepers, it's not beyond the realm of possibility. But I don't think it would spell the end of Bouna-time. Rather, I'm guessing the want a deeper roster of keepers.

I have to disagree. Nothing, and I mean nothing, from bottom level to the pros demoralizes a club MORE than poor goalkeeping. Who else are they going to use the slot on, transfer window is closing soon and players will be with their clubs until summer transfer. If this GK can prevent what would otherwise be 7 to 10 goals in a season, that is the difference between a win and a loss. Now, that being said, I like Gaudette as back up. I am not sold on Coundou and Cepero. Not at all.

I agree 100% with Carlos.. We could spend a foreign slot on ANY other player than a GOALKEEPER! Don't get me wrong, I know we need somebody good in net, but we have Coundoul, Cepero, AND Bill Gaudette (Who I'd MUCH RATHER have than this New Signing).. I really don't think our keeper's are awful enough that we have to focus on a new goalie.. Anybody remember that we still need a better MIDFIELD?

Using a senior foreign player slot on a goalkeeper is assinine! I hope this is just a rumor. How about using this slot for a forward? Duh! Maybe an attacking center midfielder. WTF?
