Marcelo Gallardo to RBNY? Strong rumors . . .
By: Dave Martinez | January 22nd, 2008
His Agent has confirmed a move to the US.
The Bulls arent saying a word.
And yet . . . we always feel we need more substance than simply that.
Well, to any Argie that follows futbol (me being one of em), you know that the definitive source on the state of Argentina, its clubs, and its players is Ole/Clarin. And MLS has been in its pages quite a few times, from the Schelotto signings, to the Riquelme rumors, even covering Marinelli, Richetti and other “C” class names that make the move stateside.
Add on to this the fact that JC Osorio is doing a South American scouting tour, with destinations including both Argentina and Colombia, and we have ourselves a rumor with some substance!
Here is the latest:
Now, even at age 32, Marcelo Gallardo, EL MUNEQUITO!!!!! . . . wow. That would be a pick up. Order my jersey TODAY.
Now, the point of the article is simple – Argentines everywhere expected him to return to Argentina, and play for a dominant team. Unfortunately for them, Gallardo has a bond to that scum River club which makes a move anywhere else a bit farfetched (See Schelotto. btw – I am a BOCA fan, and may one day do a Boca blog for offside . . . if I lose my job or something). That affinity in and of itself has made it possible to look for clubs outside the norm, including the US, which, the article states, would be the best “economic” choice, and the best choice for garunteed playing time.
El Muneco is an attacking midfielder. To compare him to Amado Guevara and Youri Djorkaeff in their MLS days would be a crime. Gallardo is explosive off the ball, creative to the point of unbelievability, and his distribution skills alone will transform our sometimes stale attack.
Angel needs service? He is the solution.
Altidore needs some flare to his attack? Gallardo would be the way.
Richards needs to find more ways to the back of the net, a mentor to teach him HOW to use that speed? Gallardo will school em.
Gallardo would be a tantalizing pick up.
Of course, losers in the Veron sweepstakes, DC UNITED, is also making a pitch to the Argie superstar. No surprise there. But can they have Gallardo and Gomez on the same pitch?
I think this all lines up Red Bulls way. And with fingers crossed, and dreams of crosses being volleyed through my head, I pray that it comes to pass.
Finally, the first exciting transfer rumor of the January season!
For the uninitiated, enjoy this video of the mastery that is Marcelo Gallardo, El Muneco!!!
