MORENO CHOKES : DC 0 - RBNY 0

By: Dave Martinez | August 30th, 2008

Every road point counts as the march to the playoffs continue. Satudays Primetime game featured lots of back and forth play, with 0 goals to show for it. The evening ended in a 0-0 draw But its a draw that feels like a win - a road point during an important playoff race, given to us by a choking Jaime Moreno! What can be better!

Overall, the Bulls featured the same pieces whom destroyed Houston last week. They, in turn, were able to shut down DC away all the same.

—————–Conway———————
Leitch —- Jimenez —- Boyens —- Goldthwaite
—————–Pietravallo——————–
—-Stammler——Magee—–Van Den Bergh –
————-Angel——Richards ————–

Pietravallo was excellent in the middle once more, taking Moreno way out of the game. I mean, WAY out. He had to be in Moreno’s head when he choked on that last PK! Diego Jimenez also showed plenty of skill and poise playing in Jeff Parkes place. Overall, the team played well together, stringing together fluid passes that ate into the confidence of the DC attack.

This is a road point the Bulls can build off of. Lets see what Chicago has to say about that this week as the Bulls travel to Illinois for another derby . . .

MAN OF THE MATCH

Juan Pietravallo is quickly becoming one of my favorite players on the team. His ability to keep the game fluid is really unparelleled for this league, and his control with the ball in the air is a gift the Red Bulls desperately needed. Add to that the amount of fouls he draws just from frustration (see Moreno) - how can you not love the guy?! His ability to keep a shaken DC offense (see Moreno again) stunned far after the absence of Luciano Emilio says it all.

TURNING POINT OF THE MATCH

Luciano Emilio gets tangled up with Andrew Boyens on a tackle in the 36th minute. Clutching at his ribs, he continued to grimace his way through the match. By the 44th minute, he was laid out without any physical contact. Clutching at his ribs some more, he was taken off the field. Grandpa Doe came in for Emilio and was so excellent out there, they subbed him out for Dyachenko! It wasnt till Gallardo’s came in in for Burch in the 69th that DC saw some semblance of attack. Gallardo created one of the few scoring chances for DC, sending Vide out wide in the 73rd, with Vide shanking the shot far left. Point being - no Emilio, no offense.

WHAT THE @*$&@* MOMENT OF THE GAME

MORENO SHANKS THE PK! MORENO SHANKS THE PK! OH MY GOODNESS! MORENO SHANKS THE PK!!!!!

Honorable Mention: Angel misses the open net, 85th minute, sending a pond skimmer that jumped parallel to the goal line, and bounced right out of bounds.

SPECIAL ED PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Jaime Moreno. Nice shank Metro Killer.

Someone didnt watch pietravallo play. He was the reason why the game wasnt fluid. He stopped DC a bunch of times but every time he got the ball he would launch it 30+ yards down field for a low percentage pass. On top of that, I dont think he connected once on those long passes. Conway is easily the man of the match. I dont know what game you were watching.

Wow, I completely disagree. Conways biggest challenges were on balls that weren’t event on net (see the first half). He did have an excellent game, but it wasnt out of this world or anything.

You didnt watch Pietravallo play against DC. When he launched the ball, it was usually to get it out of danger. When he needed to connect, on a long low percrntage, he did. But most of his passes were of the quick touch, high percentage variety. There was a period in the 2nd where DC couldnt even touch the ball, and Pietra was a big part of it (remember, when Leitch ruined it with a bad pass?).

Moreover, he single handedly got into Morenos head the entire game, getting in his face, having Moreno yelling instead of concentrating - Pietra had an excellent game (and not just because he’s Argie). Also keep in mind he was the sole CDM, backing up the new combo of CBs in Boyens and Jimenez. Take his whole performance into consideration, and then get back to me.

Conway still had the stronger game. Look at the free kicks that Pietravallo took and no one was in the area. Look at the passes where he looks for someone down field and blasts it ten yards past the target.
I’m not saying he didnt make stops. He just made awful passes. In my opinion, he is the reason why the offense never got going (on top of Osorio not bringing in Rojas earlier).

Um I agree with Dave in this one. Pietra wasn’t conducing the offense because that’s not his job. He’s in charge of breaking things up and getting rid of danger, and he does this very well.

Conway had a good game, but he would’ve had a horrible one if Pietra didn’t break all of DC’s plays.

Good thing Cichero did not play cause is He did, Moreno probably would have taken himself out at the half, thus having some other player take the shot and scoring…..Moreno fears Pietra and Cichero lol!

Good effort….JPA should have put away that game in the 85th min…I’m still wonderin how that missed.

Doe was doing fine, he was returning from injury and was only supposed to play 20 or so minutes.
