Never Forget – September 11th
By: Dave Martinez | September 11th, 2007
I am a New Yorker who has lived in Queens my whole life.
On the Morning of September 11th, I was awoken by my younger brother. At that time, I should have already been up, ready to go to College, but I had a tendancy, as many college kids do, to sleep late.
My brother woke me and said A PLANE HIT THE WTC!
I looked at him, told him it was no big deal – small passenger planes commonly hit tall buildings.
He ran back to the TV, and jetted into my room again – Dave, this is no small passenger plane . . . .
I got up, ran to the TV, and like so many other Americans, I witnessed in awe the horrible atrocities of this day.
I was in shock. I couldnt move. But after some time, I started calling everyone I knew. After that was done, i began pacing like crazy, trying to think of what to do at this time – I HAD to go to Manhattan to help out, at the very least.
I got dressed in my construction clothes, tried to donate my vans for help – even put myself on a waiting list for emergency services. Unfortunately, I never got a call nor was I able to be there to help the fallen.
The next day, I wake up to the stench of death. The smells of the burning buildings had wafted over to Queens, a good 15 – 20 miles off.
After that, the reminders were constant – since my College was right next to the Armory where people were searching frantically for any signs of their loved ones.

Of course, there is so much more detail to go into, but you have heard stories like mine for years.
As a New Yorker, I will never forget the events of this day. I ask that everyone, no matter who you are – keep these brave people and their grieving families in your mind, hearts, and prayers today.
God Bless.
