Mr. Pinton is misguided and greedy. If he was really interested in allowing the Cosmos to come back, then he would have worked it out. Believe me when I say he had plenty of offers. The fact that Cosmos merchandise, at a cost of over $200 per item is available on the site, is an outrage and only points to his greed.

Whether it helps or hurts the Red Bulls is open to debate. The Cosmos name still today is recognized. It is our team, not Pinton’s. Without fans he is nothing. He has a name, big deal.

We’ve started a group on Facebook to bring the team back. Maybe, through influence, we can get this done. NASL, MLS, it doesn’t matter. We need the Cosmos back.

If LA has two teams (LA Galaxy/Chivas USA) than I think that New York would be able to handle the situation perfectly, plus a city divided Red Bulls/Cosmos would be great.

Dave … you are the first to pick that up! Giving some new owners the rights to Cosmos as a gift would be a great benefit. I agree that the new team should be in the city and not at Red Bulls Arena or the swamp. Back to RBNY … will the team make the USOC … I suspect that the defending champions will win on May 20th.

lol no Gordon, I meant after the closing. 40 isnt even exact, but I used that number since THAT would have been selling time. Good pick up.

And again, a non shared venue, with a strong ownership group, and actual travel (which will create the type of ‘road trips’ that nurture the culture of soccer supporters) between states would really make for a great watch. I am always for a NY based franchise. But two in the swamp or the Cosmos anywhere outside of this area wouldnt work.

The New York Cosmos officially join the North American Soccer League on December 10, 1970.

Dave … Your sentiments are the same as mine. Now is the time for Pinton to cash in on the name. There will be another team in the NY area and now is the time to get the name used. Seattle has maintained the Sounders brand with teams in other leagues … the Cosmos did not do that. The Washington Freedom maintained their brand and even created a W-League team while waiting for the WPS. Pinton could have done the same, Cosmos FC or Cosmos SC should have been an ongoing concern, not just a trademark.

The Cosmos thing would only work in NY in my opinion. The use of the name is so tempting – I would only hope for competitions sake that someone like the Wilpons would take this on. I would love to see intra NY rivalries for sure.
