Oduro To Houston For Picks
By: Dave Martinez | May 28th, 2009
Dominic Oduro fell far short of expectations, and will now wake up tomorrow, once again a citizen of Texas. The Bulls have sent Oduro to Houston for a pair of draft picks. This will now ensure that the Bulls will have two first round picks heading into next season (just in time for Red Bull Arena!).
Oduro’s New York story wouldn’t be able to fill up a chapter in the book called his career. But the chances he did have, he was mostly inconsistent and out of place. He was touted as a hot prospect with track star speed. Instead, the Bulls mainly saw a disoriented youngster who did not serve well as an attacking option.
Terry Boss was also cut from the main roster.
So, how long till Oduro becomes another statistic of the Metro Curse? For those unfamiliar, that is the name for former Metro players who head over to other teams and enjoy immediate success (most recent example – Chris Leitch, who has scored more goals and assists in San Jose this year than his entire 2008 campaign). Are the draft picks a sign of a “look onto next year” mentality? Share your thoughts below.

I think we got a lot for a bench player who basically did nothing for us. So, not a terrible deal but it all depends on what they do with that open roster spot and the draft picks.

I feel the same way Matt. Its a shame that he fell so far short of expectations. Ce la vie.

Everyone on here and redbullsreader.com keep going on and on about how ineffective he was but the guy only played 10% of 11 games.
He was never given a chance to really play to see his potential. Most ppl up here don’t know much about him but in Texas they do especially Houston.
If they were willing to give up two top draft picks for him that should tell everyone something. This guy has talent.
I for one am glad that this trade happened, Osorio is an moron who didn’t want to bench Angel to give Oduro a chance to play.
So when he plays in Houston and does well you all will see what you lost. A player with lots of potential.
Hope Red bulls could start winning. HATERSPosted from

Well, thankfully for us the draft picks are for 2010 and 2011, which means Osorio will probably not be around to waste them on even more totally useless players he can loan to USL clubs for a week in order to keep them from, I dunno, getting the bench too warm.

AT – not hating. But to use an Osorio line, if they show promise in the time they are given, then they will see playing time. Oduro, in his spot chances, never shined.
The argument can also be made that he was starting to rust on the bench, and could never be effective in live game situations – and argument I firmly believe. But for the Bulls to get two picks for a player that doesn’t fit their plans, that is an accomplishment. Especially in this league.

Sigh.

why we get trade Van der Berg in the first time? We need him back…

DVB requested the trade. He is dealing with some unknown, or unpublished, issues in his family, and a move to Dallas would make his life that much easier. It was a no other option move.
