One Mistake Away from a Win: Red Bull 1 - 1 Chivas

By: Dave Martinez | June 29th, 2008

A physical battle in the midfield, and a hard fought road performance is all for naught on one UGLY play.

Kevin Goldthwaite was on the far left side. Parke was taking central, but was trotting slightly forward. Jon Conway was standing by in nets. Goldthwaite sends a direct ground pass through the middle of the pitch, directly in front of the box, away from Jon Conway. Ante Razov, Metro Killer, once again lived up to his name by catching the wayward pass before Conway could, and stuffed it in the net for the equalizer.

Is it Goldthwaites fault? The age old addage - “Dont pass the ball in front of the net” - seems to indite him right away. Or was it Jeff Parke, not paying attention, and strolling forward, that compromised Goldthwaites decision making and down the Bulls?

Either way, the Bulls earn a tie in a game that felt like a win.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Dave Van Den Bergh. It has been known for quite some time that Van Den Bergh has been a locker room leader. This year, he is carrying the role to the field. DVB, along withy Dane Richards, created problems all game for the Goats. His goal was genius off the set piece - what a curl into the net! A well deserved recognition.

TURNING POINT OF THE MATCH

Razov robs the ball and stuffs it. Come on now..

WHAT THE $&*!&$&$! MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Do I have to point out the Razov goal again?

SPECIAL ED PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Whoever was at blame, Parke or Goldthwaite, there is no question that miscommunication ruined us. But you never pass the ball directly in front of nets like that. So after being a hero a couple of times this year, Goldie will have to wear the Goat Horns this week.

Sheez…I am still recovering from Italia, no WC/ Euro double, and want to say Viva Espana, but I just cant…and now this, no Chivas double, lol! Rule #1 de futbol…*Never take your eye off the ball, while in play.* Every photo I have of Mi Amor, best Fusion and MLS player, his eye is on the ball. It is crucial and it is your fault if you miss it! Yikes. Oh well, cant win them all, they tell me.
