Osorio - The Final Synopsis

By: Dave Martinez | December 2nd, 2008

After a long day of watching the snowball effect from our earlier story, I think its a fair time to summarize the facts into nice, chewable pieces.

#1 - Apparently, GolUSA did not seem to misquote Osorio, just misrepresent him!

The quotes by Osorio seem accurate, but GolUSA’s deduction of what was meant was clearly off. They either purposefully sensationalized his quotes or they didn’t. A simple “I don’t know” or “I am not certain” can go a long way, interpretation wise.

#2 - Osorio will be staying on for next season.

This turned into such a preverbial storm that he addressed the press about it for goodness sake! He couldn’t have addressed it quicker, or made it more clear. He is dedicated to 1 more year.

#3 - Winning Championships and Creating Depth Trumps a 2nd DP slot

Plain and simple - the Bulls can not win without more quality help. In other words, a collection of development players (DP for short - oh wait, thats taken) and rookies will not be able to fill the gaps competitively in the MLS environment, where the season marches on as CONCACAF tournaments commence. Osorio would look to trade the second DP slot. No word yet if RBFO is on board with that.

#4 - Rojas and Pietravallo will be back for 2009

This is where the Ives piece and the GolUSA article have a common similarity. Here are the direct quotes from GolUSA’s piece. Compare it to Ives, and you get the full picture:

GolUSA: Meanwhile, 7 players from Columbus played 30 games or more, and in Red Bull, only the Dutchman Dave Van Den Bergh played in 30 . . .

Osorio: Its a good stat. I couldnt have a base formation and only in the last games was I able to do it and you saw the job players like Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Luke Sassano did.

GolUSA: The foreign acquisitions wound up on the bench….did they not measure up?

Osorio: The truth is, though they tried, they did not measure up. Whatever the case, Jorge Rojas and Juan Pietravallo continue; Gabriel Cichero will not.

Its not far off.

Call it misinterpretation, call it sensationalism, call it what you will. But for the first time this short lived offseason, the Red Bulls have given a clear indication about the teams direction for 2009. Coach Osorio has quelled the rumors - or has he? Share your thoughts on this little mess.

Sheesh, I miss one day, and all h e double hockey sticks breaks out! JCO is smart, you gotta stir the pot every once in awhile to make great pasta sauce!!! The meatier and spiceier, the better…Love the pic w/ papers all over, great analytical mind…So IF the #17 is freed up ONCE AGAIN, while on vacay in my favorite Colombia…HMMM…maybe pass by Medellin, and give that dynamic famous #17 delantero a try!
