A stronger union is definitely a necessity. And Mike, as of late, your totally right.

And as far as Reyna, putting a DP on a season ender is death sentence. Metro fans would drown the team in complaints and blame.

Joseph – I am hoping next season there is some change. But honestly, the league looks like its going to be playing with small incremental changes till about 2010.

Sinisa has shown great attacking flair and seems to be developing as a player. Why has he been punished with this absurd cut? This is why MLS needs a STRONG players union at the very least ensure that clubs honor “guaranteed contracts” and make it possible for players to earn a living.

Why not just put Reyna on the season ending injury list to free up the roster spot (you can increase your senior roster above 30k spots by the number of players on season ending injury if they are put on the list instead of having to move down to the dev max 17k). Did you have the dev spot or did someone else get cut for it?

This is ridiculous. Incentives are one thing, but 17k isn’t a living wage, and shows the dire need for a player’s union.

How are we supposed to call it a professional league if players can’t live on the wages?

I say up the minimum salary to 30k, and make the first 45k not count against the salary cap. 17k for a professional sports player is an insult.

I don’t love Sinisa, but against Echeverry, Boyens and others he looks downright talented. People make more working at walmart. And don’t give me the ‘following your dream’ crap, this is an insult and should not be allowed. I’m willing to forgive poor performance, but how can you be expected to play well, or at all for that matter, when you don’t know what your next paycheck will be?

If wal-mart treats it’s employees better than MLS, I’m going to stop watching, there are enough leagues and games I can catch online and on FSC than to support a league that treats it’s players this badly.

The cold reality is – who would take a mid season chance on an unproven second year midfielder? Not many. Sinisa also knows that New York, for better or worse, gets great attention. You weight your options, or in this case, pick your poison, and hope you can survive. I hope his salary is bumped again next season and then some.

This is a completely cold hearted move. I RESPECT the fact that it was a tough decision, but just cut the man so he can make a decent living wage somewhere else. Its understandable that you have to make cuts to get better but all this does is insult Sinisa and make it incredibly difficult for the man to live.

JCO is not cold! I would dump 6 today, take the new 4 youve written of, and 2 new forwards. The situation is a reflection of the MLS gar. contract date of June 1st, not being in sinc with transfer window, ending Aug. 15th, as well as our present economic climate. The 17k stinks but that is the MLS Cap problem, like Brunner, no fault of JCO but maybe the owners. He has to hang tough, and hope to make it up, in a better future. p.s. I need to fed ex the kid pasta! You need to send me some utz!

damn. I was astounded when our draftee was offered the17k and considered that an insult. But a player who not only has a contract but is a 2nd year guy and actually in our starting 11 often enough … wow!?!

17K might as well be a firing without a severance package.

17K cant buy you gas to and from the stadium for a season.

17K is just enough to insult you. zero makes you hungry. 17K makes you insulted.
