POLL: West Coast Rivalry
By: Dave Martinez | July 16th, 2009
Since Golden Balls descended from great European heights to grace the American public with his version of the beautiful game, a yearly highlight has become the clash between the Galaxy and Red Bulls. This in itself is rather amusing, since the Galaxy never really ranked as much of a hated opponent prior.
Nevertheless, clashes at the swamp have been well attended the past two seasons, with gate numbers of 66237 in 2007, and 46,754 in 2008 respectively. Obviously, these numbers are inflated by the casual drive by fan, hoping to catch a glimpse of Beckham and Posh Spice. But it does add to a growing rivalry between the two biggest markets in the league.
Though based in Beckham, the games have been contentious and always hard fought. But it gets me to thinking; are the Galaxy RBNY’s greatest west coast rival? Recently, Seattle has given New York a fit and they are only months into their existence. Houston has become hack city when the teams collide, stemming from some recent playoff history between the two. Hell, even Real Salt Lake has become a bit of a heated opponent.
I once again leave it in your hands; who is the Red Bulls greatest West Coast rival?
Who is the Red Bulls greatest West Coast rival?(trends)
Hey, and don’t forget; I am still looking for some anti-Becks/Galaxy pics for our little wager with the LA Galaxy bloggers! I am so proud of the “art” I have already seen, so keep it coming! (daveredbulls(a)hotmail.com)

I would have to say Dynamo or Chivas. At MLS cup, LARS (LA Riot Squad) were really cool with us, and ESC had a huge barbecue with them that got broken up by the cops.
They are like our sister club, both have been touched by Lalas.

Now show us on the David Beckham doll where Alexi Lalas touched you… http://is.gd/1B9Qr
Houston, for sure. More cards and violence with them than with anyone else. (to my admittedly spotty recollection, in any case)

I was at the game and man it was entertaining. I’m from Jersey so I’m a huge RBNY fan (and I was even on TV for a split second right before half time), so the scoreline was disappointing. But if you want a writeup from someone who was there, row 6 and saw every second of it, drop me an email. Disappointing year though to say the least
