Preseason GODS!!!!: RBNY 2 – Velez Sarsfield 1 (LATE UPDATE)
By: Dave Martinez | February 24th, 2009
In a clear indication of Major League Soccers dominance throughout the entire American Continent (South and North), the Red Bulls handled Argentine powerhouse Velez Sarsfield with the type of overwhelming gusto that would make Don Corleone blush! This firmly establishes the Red Bulls with the unrecognized title of PRESEASON GODS!!!!
Ok. Let me wipe away the dripping sarcasm.
Nonetheless, the Bulls have gained an important psychological preseason notch to their team psyche, with a win over Velez, 2-1. A dangerous Jorge Rojas corner 3 minutes into the competition took a bounce onto a Velez defender and into the net. Juan Pablo Angel notched goal number two to close out the first half. And Danny Cepero made several key stops in the first half to keep Velez down the deuce.
Second half saw reserves on the field, lead by Jon Conway in net, who gave up a goal but held onto the lead.
Red Bulls anticipate some more preseason friendlies against Argentino Jrs. and River Plates B Squad. I am sure their title of Preseason World Beaters won’t be challenged.
