Putrid: RBNY 2 - Fire 5
By: Dave Martinez | October 24th, 2008
Your destiny is in your hands.
Win and you’re in.
We have heard all the cliches before. And it always seems to be so encouraging before you step into a game. “Win and you’re in. . . ,” yea right.
Juan Carlos Osorio had to travel to the city he shunned to breathe life into his new teams playoff hopes. Sounds like a made for Disney TV movie.
Win and you’re in right? Right.
Once again, the curse of the jumbled lineups struck, as Juan Carlos Osorio has continued the endless trend of presenting a new lineup for every game of the year (taking a cue from Arena last year). This time around, Richards rode the bench, Kandji rode the bench, the team came out in a 4-4-2, Magee was up top, and Stammler was on the right wing. Not exactly a 4-5-1, but a definite change from what the team has been doing all season long.
That lineup did little to improve chances. The Bulls tied up the game on an Van Den Bergh to Angel hook up in the 34th. A few minutes later, the flood gates opened, which saw Chris Rolfe score a hat trick before the half.
Done.
The rest of the game goes down in Metro Bull history as yet another significant and glaring collapse. Is this the team Metro fans everywhere will be rooting for IF they squeek into the playoffs?
Speaking of squeekers, the Bulls need Columbus to beat or tie DC (you know, the same Crew team that started a reserve squad against the Bulls last week). DC hates the Bulls, so I wouldn’t expect any favors. Andrew Boyens was quoted right here on this page saying “Other teams see us as a threat, and they don’t want us to be in the playoffs.” He may be right.
It is going to be a long weekend. And for this weekend, you an use this as your weeping wall. Share your thoughts with us below.

Francis Doe, if anything, is clutch. That has been the story of his career. Then he mysteriously is traded away. I wouldnt doubt it.

All I know is all of a sudden Chris Rolfe turned into Diego Maradona….And I, like the announcers, was impressed with the 14556449416565959445465 backheels Blanco did OMG HE IS AMAZING lol……That guy must have banana peels attached to his shoes….

Ajani - MLS has become Bizzarro World. But its such a scripted tale - A coach spurns a successful team for a higher profile dream job position. They meet in the final game of the season, with said coach playing for his playoff life. A crushing loss leaves the teams hopes in the hands of their worst enemy. Couldn’t have written up better if you tried.

I should have warned you beforehand Dave…I apollogize, but you must remember to FEAR THE FLYER! Chris Rolfe had the power of the University of Dayton behind him. Always FEAR THE FLYER!

Just to vent a bit more:
—————–Magee——–Angel——————-
—————————-Rojas————————
van den Bergh——————————–Stammler
————————Pietravallo————————-
Goldthwaite——Cichero——–Boyens——-Leitch
—————————Cepero—————————-
Where is the speed? Why eliminate Jimenez, who plays well with Boyens (as Andrew told us in his last interview) in favor of an enigmatic prospect? HOW can you start Stammler over Dane? And for what its worth, with such a lack of size up top, wouldnt kandji have made a tad more sense? I know Magee has earned his way back in the lineup, but a ball holder up top with some size would have probably been the way to go this game.
Yes, hindsight is 20/20. But that was just too much for the last game of the season.

Its been an Hay Dios Mio/ Major ooof month! Reminds me of a final I had already been eliminated from, but was cheering for my friends, whom had JUST looked so promising have a full atomic meltdown…I said it would have been more fun to have a root cannel…my buddy said…yeah without the anasthesia! Ya gotta laugh and maybe rent the movie Airplane! I still stand behind JCO, he did the best he thought would work. They are all *off with his head* on sites! We will take him here in Miami 2010!

I hope Chicago crashes and burns in the playoffs. They scored 10 goals against us this year. Way to go Osorio.

well written, perhaps, that is true. it’d be poetic if it weren’t so tragic.
alas.

Hey I was at this game last night! Sorry, about the loss, guys, but if it makes you feel better I think Blanco is a fool lol Anyone think Rolfe might make it to Europe?

Im only now just barely able to comment on this without swearing.
FOr starters how can guys like Angel and VanDer Bergh showup every day and look at guys like Cichero & Boyens and not want to kill themselves thinking about what ifs?
Also is Piertovallo totally a split personality? How anoying can he be? One game showing great defense, control and promise and the next being a complete retard in every aspect of the game?
Lastly when our defense happens to be the worst ever in a professional setting how can we not throw ballers forward like Richards and Mbuta to help create havoc for poor Angel and Van Den Bergh who are the only pros on the team it seems.
My heart breaks for those two and for us fans. To see Blanco …. !!%!%!^!$$$@%#$%&!#^)*(& ….. oh, sorry. Just writing his name made me freak out again.
Id better stop and calm down

And Martha - Hay Dios Mio indeed.

What an embarrassment!! This team does not deserve a playoff position, they are a disgrace to football! Cichero should not see the pitch (turf) again in a Red Bull uniform, or any team for that matter. If we miraculously get in JCO needs to go with an all out attack because our backline is useless.

Forget Ronaldo or Henry. We are really in desperate need of a consistent, playmaking central midfielder that can control the game. I don’t know who will be available to use the DP spot on for next year but as we can see in this league, you don’t need superstars to succeed (Dynamo, Revs, Chivas). The front office really has their work cut out for them this offseason.

My bad, omit Parke from the lineup that I submitted and insert Boyens.

Rob,
I dont disagree with this
————Angel————–
——–Mbuta—-Kandji——–
DVB——–Rojas——–Richards
————Stammler————
Goldthwaithe—Boynes—–Jimenez
————Cepero————–truth is no one on this squad can defend a sleepy kitten so we might as well play to our strengths witch are speed, aggressiveness and goal scoring.
Rojas more than anyone has been a major disappointment to me. Why cant he service Angel? DVB seems more than able, why not Rojas?

lol on the sleepy kitten…um, goal scoring is our strength? I must have missed that game…Just Kidding!…but ummm, we were 2nd lowest in goals scored all year, not that I was harping on that, hint! hint!

well I think goal scoring is in fact our strength. Part of the reason we have a low total is because of the injury of Angel and also because of the roster moves.
But goal scoring is a strength by default. Our strength is clearly not defense, ball movement and control or playmaking. Its not conditioning or chemistry or experience. Hell its nothing really except the fact that we have Angel and to a much lesser extent DVB, Richards and the new african boyz.
