Red Bulls Advance; Revenge is Coming
By: Dave Martinez | April 29th, 2009
Coach Osorio’s emphasis on creating depth in the Red Bulls lineup earned some credibility points for the Bulls tonight, as they took their US Open Cup aspirations to new levels, beating the Earthquakes 2-1 behind the efforts of mainly a B squad. Dog house resident Mike Petke was let off his chain tonight, and he took his opportunity in a big way, scoring the Red Bulls first goal two minutes into the match. When San Jose tied it up, Wolyniec was there to seal the victory.
The Bulls opened the game in a 4-5-1, featuring Woly as the lone striker:
———————–Wolyniec———————–
Kandji—————————————–Oduro
————Ubiparipovic—Sassano——————
———————-Pietravallo———————–
Borman—–Boyens———-Petke——–Johnson
———————–Cepero————————–
Danny Cepero proved up to the task with the win, which will most likely lead to more playing time. Carlos Johnson wasn’t ejected (a great sign at this point). And Petke made the most of his minutes. The Bulls will now advance in the tournament, where DC United awaits them.
As Petke would say,” Revenge is Coming.”

Looks like it was a solid win against San Jose. I don’t think that we should underestimate how important this could be. A road win in SJ and hopefully another in LA, which is absolutely possible since the Galaxy suck worse than we do. Wins bring back confidence and confidence will bring back wins. I hope JCO keeps his job. It’s seems like a mess but it’s starting to take shape.
