Red Bulls Beat Guadalajara!

By: Dave Martinez | June 26th, 2008

An inspired Red Bulls squad made my staying up till 1am worth it, with a win against an out of game shape, tired, uninspired Chivas Guadalajara team.

Red Bulls pwnd the game. Seriously, from start to finish, it was all Red Bull. It actually makes you admire MLS teams like Houston or New England who are thrown into preseason tournaments and still go head to head with the regions best. Chivas couldnt do any of that tonight.

Echeverry
scored on a gorgeous Ubi set up that left the Colombian all alone. Earlier in the game, he shanked a sitter – and all I could think was PLEASE dont be the Special Ed player 3 weeks in a row come Chivas USA! But he turned it around.

And Ubi played well. Very well. Again.

Osorio trotted out nearly the same lineup, save for a Fat Cat Thornton start, and a Van Den Bergh sub. And it seems the Bulls are liking the set up.

The second half featured more rooks on the field, but the results and flow never changed – it was RB from start to finish.

Though the goal of 30,000 people in attendance fell far short (~ 10k), the game itself was played well. At least by our squad.

I went to the game and as a Chivas fan I was disappointed with my team but I really couldn’t help but admire the Red Bulls. There were quite a few Red Bull fans around which was quite impressive considering the geography. I’d say that the low attendance was due to the low amount of advertising and high price of tickets. Overall for me the game was a bit boring except for the fight that saw 2 players sent off.

Gratz for Oscar, but we still need some more attacking options, namely strikers

At first touch, I thought we were toast, but then they flipped the switch and became a well oiled d. with that G something cuter than Cobi Jones kid. Then the offense flipped the switch with Ubi. So I tuned in, had a nice Eche attempt, goal, goal called back, and a boxing match all before the half! Too bad JCO did not coach Italy, as I would have my Euro08 with his tactics and ability to sub, WTG.

Martha – You werent the only one caught by surprise – I expected more rookies, and a Chivas win. Fortunately, nuestros muchachos jugaron con bastante gana!
