Red Bulls MLS Draft Tracker (All Day Updates)
By: Dave Martinez | January 15th, 2009** DONT FORGET TO REFRESH THROUGHOUT THE DAY **
The Red Bulls have been one of the teams most speculated of making moves not named Toronto FC. So instead of having to write 982672398763275237 posts, I will instead keep updates of todays happenings, linking everyone to the news of interest.
Feel free to comment on all the latest happenings, and dealings. It should be a fun day had by all.
9:53a.m. : Dave is having a coffee, writing some sales letters, and awaiting the MLS Draft! See how this will work?
10:08a.m. : SBI is reporting that the Bulls passed up on a late offer by TFC for Magee, which would have included their 13th pick in this years draft, but instead, chose to honor their original deal with the Galaxy. So you pass on a 13th pick for an unknown second round choice in 2010. Wonderful start to the day.
On a side note, I think it would be wonderful if the Bulls can somehow land Todd Dunivant from TFC, who is being shopped around. That was a loss that should have never happened. His addition would give us a left side that would be powerful and dangerous, what with Jorge Rojas most likely taking on the LM position.
11:05a.m. : Bruce Arena really did have a vision for the Red Bulls. So much so that he is trying to recreate the 2007 Bulls in LA! The Goffster reports the Galaxy trying to work a deal to land Dema Kovalenko from RSL. More on that as I get the info . . .
11:57a.m. - It was Dema for Allocation dough. Nothing official yet, but it should come down the wire.
2:15p.m. : Finally back. Sorry about the delay. Well, an anti climactic beginning so far with everyone taking their picks and no trades to be found. Gonzalez went to the Galaxy in 3rd. That was the pick I was most looking at. Snorefest.
2:49 p.m. - They are saying Twellman will be gone. Best news of the day if it ever comes true.
3:22 pm – What a horrible time for this thing to crash on me. The Bulls selected Jeremy Hall, considered by many to be the highest rated left wing prospect in the draft. He is well known for his pace, which seems to be Osorio’s formula for next season. He was also a standout in his conference – the best in the nation. He was Osorios target, and they got him. Best of all? He is a Generation Adidas player, which exempts him from the salary cap.
Now lets address that defense?
3:30 pm – Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Jeremy Hall (thanks to the Maryland Terps website):

He had an ankle problem last year, but looks to be 100 percent now. He is a threat every time he touches the ball. His confidence is at an all-time high and I believe that will translate into a phenomenal year for Jeremy.”

3:37 pm - New York selects Babajide Ogunbiyi, Santa Clara, Defender. This one is exciting! “Baba” or “Jibe” was a target for the Bulls at #11 and were fortunate enough to grab him at 18. He is 6′4″, left footed, and a defender. I am happy.
3:48 pm – ESPN.com’s take on Jibe:
A late bloomer and undoubtedly a raw project with upside, Ogunbiyi moved up to the West Coast Conference first team in 2008 after three previous honorable-mention nods. The big, 6-4 defender could become a dominating force in the middle if his progression continues. Born in Rochester, New York, Ogunbiyi has spent time with the Nigerian youth programs and this past summer trained with the Nigerian senior side. Ogunbiyi scored 11 goals and added eight assists during his career, despite mostly coming off the bench in his sophomore year due to an offseason injury.
