Red Bulls v. Sounders: It’s Business Time!

By: Dave Martinez | March 19th, 2009

It’s Business Time Folks (and this video is for you Andrew Boyens).

Tonight, the Red Bulls debut against Drew Carey’s Seattle Sounders. 20,000 emo kids will be screaming about the inequities of life in between Sounder chants, so expect an electric atmosphere.

I will be at Nevada Smith’s tonight in the city (74 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10003). Drop by, say hi to some of the ESC folks, and grab a beer with us.

If not, you do have other alternatives:

#1 – Watch the game on ESPN2 tonight at 9pm.

#2 – Escuchen el partido en espanol por radio WADO 1280. Tienen un stream por internet en esta direccion.

#3 – Follow along with our game tracker, as Travis will be liveblogging the game on the MLS Offside homepage.

And while your at it:

Metrofanatic has a fantastic look into the Red Bulls record all time against expansion teams.

I’d like to thank everyone for the SEATTLE v. RED BULLS BATTLE OF THE BLOGS entries. I’ve never seen Drew Carey more . . . ummm . . . compromised.

Now, let’s hope I can deface her blog with a win tonight!

Thanks again everyone! And come down to Nevadas . . . have a drink, sing some songs, and have a blast! IT’S ON (once again) LIKE DONKEY KONG!

At least one Colombian had a good night. Too bad it wasn’t ours. The Seattle coach really knows how to beat the Redbulls.

What’s that kid’s status? Wiki says he’s on loan, Harkes makes it sound like he’s in Seattle for good.

    Sad night.

Where was the defense? Did you ever heard of a guy called Pietravallo? and about certain Uboriparopirovic?

The back four was awful, specially Goldthwaite. Rojas was trying to play the one man show but didn’t work. He was starting the plays from way back.

JPA was lonely as ever, and not as physical as usual.

We have a lot of things to solve, I’m really upset about the result and the lack of attitude of some players.

Jeremy Hall looks like somebody with the right set of mind to play at this level and it seems that technically is better than Mendes.

JPA was left alone out there. I’ll admit I haven’t watched many Redbull or metrostar games but I still cheered for them. How do they manage to win if they always have to get the ball to Angel? Whenever I saw them play they always try to get the ball to him and hope he scores. There’s not that collective offense I see in other teams in other leagues. This game was similar to the 2008 final where the opponent had many players getting passes up the field and building an attack with many players. It seems the Redbulls don’t can’t do that and just hope their long crosses reach Angel and hope he works his magic.

Ya that was pathetic, I was very surprised.

    Here’s my thoughts:

Montero was amazing, I almost have a hard time seeing someone with that talent staying in the MLS for long.

Goldthwaite was horrendous, thank god we have Pacheco comming in, but we have to wait 1 more game.

The defensive mids played terrible, played no defense, and couldn’t get the ball forward.

Rojas really was starting way to far back, I’m not sure if that was him or the inneptitute of the backs to get the ball to him.

Angel had a surprisingly bad game, he had a number of bad first touches.

Kandji played better up front than on the wing, but there wasn’t much help getting the ball up there.

I thought the sounders defense played surprisingly well, when we had chances they were cutting off passing lanes and crowding the ball.

Hall played solid in my opinion, had a few giveaways but almost looked like the most composed player on the pitch.

I was about to say Petke played well until he gave up the goal, take that away and you could say he was solid.

Other than that Osorio really needs to get the act together because the club really looked unprepared for that game.

Bring on the gratuitous Freddie Ljunberg underwear picture, it’s better to look at that than the UTTER BULLSHIT that happened on the field tonight.

UGH!!! WTF??!! After all the preseason hype I was again dumb enough to think that things would change. I don’t care that we lost (although we shouldn’t have against an expansion team) but we got BEAT UP! We were out hustled and outmuscled. The new WPS team in New York would play those guys harder than the Red Bulls did.

Was I watching a U20 team that had never played together?
Osorio needs to make some changes, good it’s early.
Kandji is showing nothing. Hall should be moved into his spot.
    I going to bed sick.

3-0 is a hosing and a wake-up call. WAKE UP RED BULLS! You have earned nothing yet this season and last year’s “success” doesn’t count for anything this season.

Wow we made Seattle looking like f’n Columbus or Chicago. What a joke.

Of course we made Seattle look like Columbus. Seattle has the same coach that led Columbus to the title last year. Seattle has a good team, good foward in Montero and a goalie with World Cup experience.
