By: Dave Martinez | June 23rd, 2009
What do Thierry Henry, Javier Zanetti, Ryan Babel, Jason Kidd and Grant Hill have in common?
They will all be playing at a park near you.
That’s right! Back by popular demand, Steve Nash and Claudio Reyna will be presenting the second annual “Showdown in Chinatown” charity event next week, June 24th (yes, that is tomorrow)
These are the details:
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Roosevelt Park
Right off of Delancy
Between Christie and Forsyth
For those unfamiliar with the event, players from the basketball and soccer worlds put on some cleats Here are the featured players for this 8 a side classic charity clash:

Claudio Reyna (US/Former NY Red Bull)
Thierry Henry (France/FC Barcelona)
Javier Zanetti (Argentina/Inter Milan)

Ryan Babel (The Netherlands/Liverpool)
Giovanni van Bronckhurst (The Netherlands/Feyenoord)

I’ll be covering the event from inside the cage, so give me a holler if you see me (I’ll have my derby hat on).
There is also an after party 9pm at the Hudson Terrace. Here is the link for everyone who wants to party with the stars!
And here are some vids and links from last years event. Hope to see you all there!

Will be there. Gonna try to catch an earlyish (12:41) train into the city and hang out around the park / maybe kick around a little bit until the game starts.

Sounds good. Hopefully the weather holds up. I can’t even imagine how many people will be there, last year was ridiculous so I figure there will be a whole lot more this year.

Ugh, I wish I could get off from work tomorrow. I might try to sneak off early but getting from work to Manhattan will take an hour at least; if only it was today when nobody would have noticed if I didn’t come back after lunch…

The game started around 6:20pm. It stopped raining around 5:40 I think and a lot of people started to come around 6 and watched from outside the fence.
