Im personally thrilled that Arena is gone.

Ive argued this with friends a bunch of times. Ok, hes had a ton of success, at least compared to the other MLS talent, but his recent performances leave me totally unimpressed.

IMO the national team was coached to disgrace in the WC. Granted we played Italy well and were way overmatched vs Czech Rep. However the way Arena coached us, and blamed the players, seemed uninspired, weak and lazy.

The way he dealt with the bulls seemed similar. Honestly Im happy hes gone.

I cant believe the 180 between Reyna and Bruce – it just seems that Reyna felt Bruce’s heart just was not in it anymore. For a life long relationship to turn to this is truly amazing.

Dissapointed that Reyna would talk like that after he has always been Bruce’s guy. He was the leader of Arena’s teams at UVA, he was Arena’s national team captain and Arena wanted him for Red Bull. Reyna is probably the one player most closely tied to the guy, so him dishing on him just doesn’t feel right.

And you forgot Thor Lee on your list of DCU legends that Bruce had the honor of coaching . DC is only that stacked in retrospect, and went through a number of players before he got the final roster. Pope just came off deciding to give pro-soccer a try out of college instead of going to law school for instance.

I disagree abit on your take of Bruce Arena, I dont think he is all that bright in all aspects polished or not. He was blessed with hungry world class performance in WC02 that made him look awesome. But when the chips were down in WC06 or RBNY where was Arena, out of town…

He did well at DC, but then again good players, good fit, everyone was hungry. He is not a motivator, a tactical genius, nothing really. He is akin to the Joe Torre of MLS good guy, capable leader, right place right time, but very little in terms of skills.

Yes, the saying part actually gets to me. You rarely see that in sports.

And Reyna didn’t come out and SAY it necessarily, but my GOODNESS the insinuations are SO strong.

Im glad you agree with me on the Arena development front – and you would know better being a DC fan.

About Arena…you’d think they would be a bit more subtle in their comments about him. Guess not. I just don’t think he is a good coach for developing players. He isn’t the type for that. It doesn’t surprise me that the players think that, it just surprises me that they *said* that.
